Heads up for everyone!

The Chapter 2 side-quest has been added at the bottom of the Main Chapter 2 Rules so anyone who qualifies for it can check the rules and go for it :!:

Nice side quest for Chapter 2. I'll try and get Chapter 2 and that side quest done soon. It will be great to see some big shifts in scores.

-------

Hey, Al and Hans — it occurred to me that the amount of returning to town with items for the side quest will be brutal. Especially given most of us will be prepping inventory accordingly for this side quest and there won't be much room. Any chance of dropping magics from the list of what can go into a collector?

Finally, some use for Halls of the Dead. I cleared that earlier for the waypoint and found the monsters not too tough either.

Sub Quest Analysis
=================
This quest is going to show how well you:
  • Know your Halls of the Dead map
  • Your limits with PlayersX
  • You got your Magic Find up
Personally, I suggest
  • You buy a couple of Magic Collectors beforehand
  • Carry charms that carry charges of Bone Armor, Dire Wolves, Fire Golem, etc. (sorry Hans :()
  • Do this on a Players setting of 32 or higher, just make sure you don't get damaged too much.
  • Carry lots of Magic Find items.

Threats on high players:
  • Hollow Ones/Guardians - The threat with this guy is the minions they can ressurect. You could fight an endless stream of Skeletons, Mummies and worse, Bone Golems.
  • Bone Golems - High damage dealers at P32+, can also be ressed by Hollow Ones and Guardians
  • Scourge - They fly around a lot and may get a sucker punch against you if you are not careful. Use summons to distract them.
  • Grendel - Unfortunately there is a chance you might fight one of these, they are one of the more lethal creatures of Act II. They are invisible while moving, hard to tell if they going to attack you and they waste your summons fast at high players.
  • Growlie - Like Scourges and are pesky critters.
  • Boogey Men - Cannot be seen and can do about 700 damage on P128. Use the light they gave off to detect them and summons to distract them. They drop lots of Jewels and transmutables for your Collector when they fall.
Difficulty: Varies on character, kill speed and stats. With summons, it can be easy.

Code: Select all

Player PX MC Died Multi Total
==================================================================
Hellwolf_36 127 0 0 1.0005 0
I made the scorechart above me to help keep tabs on score for the subquest.
PX - PlayersX the player attempted on
MC - Total amount of Magic Collector Points on completion of the subquest
Died - # of times you died
Multi - Multiplier tallied with deaths etc.
Total - Total points from MC(Multi - .005Died)

I'm going to attempt the quest after my 2 questions are answered.

You got a cube with plenty of room and if magic is dropped, the scores will be tiny.

Two questions: If a scroll drops that has the outcome be a magic, rare or unique, but we use the ingredients to make it happen with things that drop, are we allowed to transmute that outcome? Second, do jewels and charms count for transmutation for the collectors?

Hellwolf_36, you have misinterpreted the rules:

(4) Total Score = Collector points * Multiplier (Add this total to your main Chapter Total Score before going to Chapter 3).

This is a separate Multiplier for this side-quest only. So say you collect 10,000 and have a side-quest multiplier of 1.10 you get 10,000 * 1.10 => 11000 which you then add to your main chapter total score.

Secondly:
Two questions: If a scroll drops that has the outcome be a magic, rare or unique, but we use the ingredients to make it happen with things that drop, are we allowed to transmute that outcome? Second, do jewels and charms count for transmutation for the collectors?
How can the rules be misunderstood???? It is magic, rare, set, unique items that drop only!

(3) Collect as many magic, rare, set and unique items as you can and load magic collectors with them. No other items can be used to load collectors. Any collectors loaded prior to this side-quest do not count and can not be used.

As there is no mention of scrolls it should be obvious you can not use them. If charms and jewels fall into one of the categories above of course you can use them.

***********************************************

Metro: If you use the cube to store items the trips won't be as frequent (although sorting will be a pain) but I will ask Hans if we can take out magic items.

I didn't exactly misinterpret the rules. I may have worded it in a way that is incorrect.

The base multiplier is 1.000 and I added .0005 as I am attempting the quest on Players 127. So I wrote 1.0005 on the chart. When I finish the quest, I'll apply my numbers.

I also need the two questions answered before I attempt.

And I don't think it would be fair to remove magic items from the transmutation. Rares are only worth double the magic ones and rares don't drop as frequently. All the scores will be tiny and I just started my attempt on the quest right now, going with what you said and the current rules (so I am hording magic crap as well).

Plus, I have dealt with worse hording situations that this.

============================================================================================
[Edit] Thanks for answering, but you made it sound like you were biting my head off. I just wanted a simple clarification :(.

Sorry, I was biting your head off and I apologise.

Please wait until we get clarification from Hans about the magic items before starting. I tend to agree with you that we should keep them but we'll have to wait and see what Hans says. He is the main author of this side-quest so his word will be final.

Apologies once again.

No problem, I can understand what angle you are coming from. Besides, I have dealt with worse things than what you said (try having an entire board you tried to administrate an autistic faggot or socially stupid).

There were enough questions with the 1st side-quest, over a simple use of "Can spells be used?" when it was clear that you can only use them for when you are trapped, your path was locked in monsters, or you are going to die.

Alright, I'll hold off on the quest, I need some collector points for my other collectors anyways (need 30k for a Unique charm for Ch 3).

Magic items will be counted in the score.

Only dropped magic or better items will count for the collector. Using scrolls to make a magic item will not count.

Jewels or charms that drop that are magic or better will count.

I plan on making the items into collector points in the HotD when it is safe to do so.

Agreed. It was that one particular f-word used that was inappropriate.

@Hellwolf, I was not trying to bite your head off. On the other hand, I don't pull punches with anyone. If someone uses inappropriate language, then they're going to hear about it. Nuff said.

I'm going to tackle the 2nd side quest tonight on p127. I have 1075% mf. I had to sacrifice a bit of life and damage to get that, but I think I'll still be fine if a bit slow.

Yeah I should have kept that part private, as it does ruin the atmosphere that this board has to maintain and offends others. But I was called stuff like that by the other members, even though I didn't exactly deserve it.

The purpose of that was to point out that I have dealt with worse as I was called those things. I just forgot to include words that referenced myself. Oh well, sorry about that, you had every right to act.

Looks like I got some magic find work to do. I wonder how you pulled that off though, most likely with a few Mf/Level items and lots of P Topazes and Finder CHOMs.

I couldn't find any Mf/Level items. I used Wealth armor, 3 4os tall charms with perf topaz, 5 minor posters, 2 finder choms, perf topaz filled helm, perf topaz filled belt, and a wealth tall charm (I thought it would have 100% mf as well, but apparently zerb was wrong. 50% mf for wealth tall charms as compared to 100% for armor). I farmed gold in the valley of snakes/claw viper temple level 2 to buy all the topazes.

I just finished up my run and came out with way more MC points than I expected. I had no clue level 3 was so massive. I found 6 uniques and 1 set item along the way which I'm pretty sure is really lucky. All in all, I got 3568 MC points. I had a couple of really close calls with groups of bone golems, but I managed to stay alive.

ALL charm RW are roughly ~50 of their counterparts.

If they dont have counterparts theres not much difference

Yeah but 50% MF through Wealth trumps the 30% Finder Offers. 2 Quad or Tall Charms made from Wealth surpass 2 Finders by 1 Finder worth of MF in space. All it costs to make Wealth is a 3 socket charm (Scrolls can make them) and ~1.3million gold for the Lem Runes (to be made from Kos).

But you can trump THAT with the 4os Quad/Tall Charms armed with P Topazes. That's 100% MF, which is 3x more than a Finder. You can also Chipped Topaz to Quad Charm or Tall Charm 4 and get a chance for another 10% MF.

So far for my MF gear, I made Wealth of Knowledge (Wealth + Perfect Topaz) for 125% mf and started making 3 os Charms for Wealth in general.

I just need to get a socketed helmet, boots and a belt and a scroll that adds up to 3 slots to my Rare gloves (which have 23% mf by default).

I don't need 1000% mf that John has, I feel 800+ should be sufficient.

Quad charms with P Topazes would add lightning damage and Wealth doesn't work in quad charms. You could put P Topazes in large charms though.

Guys, I'm sorry to say, but I'm pulling out of this. The Necro simply as not working out. For whatever reason I liked him in the beginning but it takes ages to kill things now. More importantly, I'm spending too much time at this event and I simply don't have it. I need to be progressing my characters in the various Sims 3 challenges I've set up, since that's my paying gig.

Hans/Al — keep up the good work.

So basically, any charm that is vertical will get MF.

But 2 Large Charms, assuming you can put 2 sockets into one, can have more MF than 3 Finders combined.

Luckily, I got plenty of free 3-4 os Tall Charms to sacrifice for P Topaz.

It's not weird at all. That's the craziness of Zy-El. One minute everything is fine and the next time you pump up some skills your build can be trashed if you're not careful. A lot of players thrive on that and push on. It's always been a very difficult thing for me to wrap my head around.

What I found weird about it is I once got to Nightmare with a summon necro and only ran into problems in Act 5 with the Burn Curse.

It's all about manipulating what you have into your favor and sometimes maintaining a balance.

Hans I believe is more knowledgeable with necromancers than I am at higher difficulties.

===========================

[Edit] I managed to search through my inventory and do a couple of leveling runs in the false tombs to find a couple of xxxx to Tall Charm-4 scrolls and make a lot of Tall Charms with 4 Sockets. I just got the unholy job of doing Ancient Tunnel/Claw Viper runs to get the money to pay for all these P Topazes. So far, most of them are stocked (it cost me the 3 million gold I was carrying).

This will be useful as I do not need to sacrifice equipment just to MF myself higher (except for the belt which is actually taking away 30 mf).

I really wish this was in Chapter 3 as we could just use a Mega Master and solve our MF problems :(.

===========================

[2nd Edit] Too bad I improvised. Managed to get 1457% mf sacrificing mostly all skills, but still managing to keep a few skill + items. Kill Speed is gonna be bad, but I should be able to get some points. The armor is a Wealth of Knowledge (Wealth + P Topaz), all but one of the tall charms have 4 P Topazes (I didn't notice this until I put them away), Helm and Belt have 2 P Topazes each, Ammy has a P Topaz plus 31% base from the prefix and the rest come from the Gloves, Shield, 2 Posters, and the Finder Charm.

Scored 8 Uniques and 7 Sets (the sets I didnt transmute).

Also decided to have a pyre with the Magic Collectors, because I wanted to make my "tribute to my ancestors".

I have taken the liberty of adding me and John's score to the scoreboard, along with adding a new column called SQ, which will be the final score from the sub-quest added to the Chapter 2 score before going into Chapter 3. I will slay Duriel on my break from studying for exams.

Code: Select all

Player PX MC Died Multi Total

Nice work Hellwolf_36 and John. I am going to try my run using MF under 300% so as not to suffer "Diminishing returns" and hope it works. I know I will be taking a risk but doing it at P 127 will hopefully be enough to come close to or top your and John's scores. Time will tell. Don't know if I have time tonight to do the side-quest but I will attempt it fairly soon.

Also, thanks for doing the table Hellwolf_36. Saves me a bit of work :)

More importantly, I'm spending too much time at this event and I simply don't have it. I need to be progressing my characters in the various Sims 3 challenges I've set up, since that's my paying gig.
Really sorry to hear this Metro. You will be missed. Good luck with the Sims and thanks for taking part as far as you did. Keep in touch from time to time please.

I don't think 300% will be enough Al-T. I did the HotD when I was clearing the act normally with ~250% and my Collectors averaged out at ~2000.

You need like 900% mf or more to be able to make every equipment based item drop as blue.

Plus at least 2 of the 3 floors must have Boogey Men and each floor should have some form of Hollow One to get 3000+, that's how I got 4500+. That and I had 400+ more MF than John did.
