Problem creating new dt1

So i've been trying to create some custom wall tiles, I am using the tristram town.ds1 as my base.
I am using Dt1 Tools to extract and pack dt1 infos.
However when I pack it and view it with Dt1 Debug, the colors are all messed up.
And yes I am saving the new pcx into indexed colors.

any ideas?

there may be better ways, but here's mine:

extract_dt1 > pcx files
acdsee 3.1 (the new are {filtered} with not needed features and more system requirements, visit oldversion.com to get the 3.1) to convert pcx to bmp
modify bmp in .... brace yourself..... paint95 (I still dont't know why they discarded the "imported image is larger, increase borders?" feature in m$paint on newer OS's)
acdsee to convert bmp to pcx
make_dt1.bat > dt1 files

works everytime

something is wrong with your palette.
Which program you use to save in pcx-format?
If you use Photoshop to save in pcx, dont do it, because Photoshop swap this palette.
Save it as indexed bmp and load it then in irfan view as example and save it there as pcx.

Thanks for your help guys, I was able to take info from both your replies. Here's how i did it.

1. Extracted pcx from dt1
2. Load pcx with Photoshop
3. Image > Mode > Color Tables > Save > #directory#
4. Image > Mode > RGB (This way I am able to use layers, which is greatly needed)
5. Edit Image
6. Image > Mode > Indexed Color > Pallete > Custom > Load > #directory of saved .act file#
7. Save as bmp
8. Use ACDSee to convert to .pcx
9. Pack pcx and infos into dt1

Wasn't able to get Photoshop to save pcx correctly, and Irfan View did a poor job of converting as well. At least for me.

Photoshop is a pain to work with pcx and correct palettes...since version 6. Same is here with very big pictures.

my way is a bit different, but mostly similar

1. Extracted pcx from dt1
2. Load in IrfanView, added palette and save as bmp, sometimes also as psd (when i need gif, normaly PS isnt able anymore to load gif-files with all layers)
3. Load in Photoshop, double click layer -> its convert into RGB-Mode then
4. Make my edits
5. run an action in Photoshop for palette adding, saving in bmp and few other things
6. Load this again in IrfanView and save as pcx
7. Pack this back into dt1
