Black Wall at Act 1 - Wilderness 1

Hello,

sometime wenn i go out to Bloodmoor than i have like a black wall after the Bridge. But it issent all time.

Can you help me ?

This sounds more like playing on battle.net or maybe a slow TCP/IP link than a modding question. Lag causes the black wall, it might update and let you into the next map section but usually it means your game is hosed.

This happens if you incorrectly edit the DS1 files for the act1 town, I.E. replace all directions with the same map as one example.

i have copy Act1/Town/TownE1.ds1 to all 4 files, so all are the same.

Do i have to change this 2 Files too ?
Act 1 - Town 1 Transition E
Act 1 - Town 1 Transition S

I diddent start b-net or TCP

You can't do this, sorry to say. The easiest would be to make all 4 town .ds1s the same, except for the different location of the entrance.

The game choose itself randomly which way the town entrance is, and generate outdoors levels from there. So you have to keep the 4 original DS1 *entrances*. Your "black wall" is in fact because you forced the game to use a ds1 with for instance the entrance to the East, while it expected it to be at West and genereated outdoors levels at West.

Hi,

thats what i done:

We'll now avoid us some works, as we just want to edit 1 ds1 of the Rogue Encampment, not to do the same changments in all the 4 variations (North, South, East and West). So, let's open (from your Mod Directory) the file LvlPrest.txt in Excel. The line Act 1 - Town 1 has 4 different files in the columns File1 to File4, they are :
· File1 = Act1/Town/TownN1.ds1
· File2 = Act1/Town/TownE1.ds1
· File3 = Act1/Town/TownS1.ds1
· File4 = Act1/Town/TownW1.ds1
Copy / paste the File2 value into the File1, File3 and File4 columns. Now, whichever the orientation the game will want the Town to be, it'll take in all case the ds1 Act1/Town/TownE1.ds1, the one we'll edit soon. Save, and close LvlPrest.txt.

And you get the black wall when the game has decided to load files 1, 3 or 4 :roll: Been there before ;)

are you sure this is because you MODDED something? because i sometimes get that, too, in unmodified diablo2. in that case its just that d2 loads some data too slow, or you just got some lag. there is nothing you can do against that in that case.

This is a known problem with the Act 1 town ;) As I said in my previous message, I've been there and found no fix. Either you edit all the town .ds1s, but keep the entrance where it is, either you use 1 town only, scrap the entrance and make an underground warp (like town-to-cave).

Is there any way to change the code so it only selects one .ds1 to pick and forces a direction the world is generated in?
