Found some time to play last night. Got to level 23, starting to pick up momentum. Completed my first runeword ("Booster" belt) as soon as I could. Since then added a Slash katar and a Veil katar. Phychic Hammer and Fire Bomb are my M.O. right now. Can (slowly) do players 8 cold plains, as long as I walk wide circles around Bishibosh.

Got a nice summoning charm (level 6 Skeleton, level 4 Skeleton mage, leve 6 Bone armor) from a cube scroll, but dear god those things are expensive to repair. Helps quite a bit though, and the skelies last for a while if I make sure they don't get seperated and surrounded. Won't be able to play any more this weekend, hopefully next week I can wrap up Act 1.

It's unusual for a cube scroll to produce anything less than a magic (blue) charm. Are you sure it is a normal white item

I am asking because the rules state

Equipment. Chapter One sees you emerge from the cosmic soup as an Amoeba and takes place in Act 1 Normal mode. As you are just starting out, you can only use white items which will include runewords.....

so if it is magic or higher then you are not allowed to use it.

If it is white you can continue to use it but if it is anything else please place it in your stash until you are allowed to use it (Chapter 2 onwards), with no penalty this time.

Did you forget the [Key to Hx Charm-3] and such? those are all White Charms unless Scroll say otherwise
Sucks as a Paly I can use summons but no biggie I just stand and people die around me so its all good

I did forget about those yes but like I said above, as long as it is white it is okay to use it.

There is very good reason Paladins aren't allowed to use summons and I will PM you with the reason

Probably better if you make full use of the level restriction (<=75) and wait until 75 before attempting it. Give yourself the best possible chance. Only 1 player has successfully completed this side-quest so far.

Well, I had gotten discouraged for a while...this game can be tedious at times (especially with these item restrictions!). But, out of the blue I met a fella at the bar last night who used to play Zy-El and post here on the Phrozen Forums. What a small world.

Suffice to say that I am once again inspired to undertake this challenge. Gonna grind it out some more after I get off work, hopefully I'll have some results tomorrow!

Yeah I did...and...well let's just say I have a low tolerance for frustration, and that tourny might just push me to insanity.

From what I've gathered, Hellwolf, you made it because you were commenting earlier about casting spells when certain creatures came near you.
As a necro, does that mean I can summon a golem, then later on when feeling threatened, cast bone armour, and when threatened, curse my way out?

Only when your life is in imminent danger, not when you simply feel threatened and you can only use summons/spells to fight back so "Bone Armour" is not allowed. Curses and spells to damage monsters are allowed but only to save your life and clear a path to run through.

(3) All magic and physical powers are also in "stasis" due to the imbalance so this really is an escape attempt. You are not allowed to use any summons/caster spells or engage in direct melee combat unless you are (a) completely surrounded, (b) need to clear a path to run through or (c) your life is in imminent danger.

Basically, I only used my Glacial Spike and Teleport as a last ditch effort to avoid getting struck in the face with an attack. And with 400ish life plus drain from the Shield CHOM, I was pretty much screwed in any situation.

My strategy was basically outrun as best as possible and use freezing to maintain cracks for scenario A and B. I rarely had to kill enemies since Glacial Spike wasn't one shot fatal.

For you, you can teeth your way out being surrounded. You can also use a golem to make enemies circle it and escape. The only curses I can think of that will help you are Dim Vision and Weaken.

But this is a really troublesome interpretation of the rules that lead to constant discussions and annoyances, even though it was pretty straightforward. The issue mainly revolved around the player's interpretation of the rules and their own discretion.

I guess if Hellwolf is going to cross over to Treasure Hunters, I am going to have answer by crossing over to Evolution! I figure I am going to die. Plenty. May as well learn and practice melee while I'm dying. As well, the competition at the top is pretty fierce, and there is such a high element of luck to the scores, that my deaths will not affect my standing in 10th or 15th or 20th place all that much.

N.B. "Fixed" the table to right-justify zeroes... that's been bugging me lo these many months!

Oh stop being such a Wuss and get on with it With all your time lurking, experience in "Pure Grind" and less so in "Treasure Hunters" and your extensive, yes it is now, knowledge of the mod you will be fine. It will be nice to see how well you get on with a Barb. I know how I would play one but it will be interesting to hear about your in-field tactics, skill and equipment choices and overall strategy.

I'm going to take your advice and start a Druid Summoner for this, though I'm going to start in Chapter One because I need to get a feel for the restrictions before I jump in, heh.

As I understand it (blame pregnancy brain here, I ask a lot of redundant questions sometimes): white items or runewords only, in addition to gemmed, up to the saving Cain (then a CHoM!) thing?
