 Let me know when you are starting and I'll start from scratch again at the same time, give or take a few days and timezone differences :)
-----------------

[EDIT] What the heck.....no time like the present. I am going to start again from scratch and hopefully this will stimulate some more interest in the forum and this challenge in particular as it seems to be very quiet at the moment. I haven't started or even thought up a team name but as soon as I do I'll add a new table.

Happy Zy-Elling everyone :)

Played all day yesterday right through until 6am this morning and have played a few hours today also. Started off with my Druid as he will be the easiest and safest to farm for himself and everyone else, at least early on. It was the usual grind getting to a level where he was actually useful :P. In the "Treasure Hunters Mini" I was able to play at P127 with my Druid without much fear but since this is Hardcore I am not going above P8 for now. As a consequence I haven't accumulated as much good gear as I did back then but ("nodrop" differential between P8 and P127 is significant), safety first ;) . Having said that, he has managed to accumulate enough socketed armours and low-level weapons for the entire rest of the team and a few socketed charms they can use in addition to having some half-decent low-level items for himself.

Started the DoE at level 26 with just Ravens playing at P8 and after a second run there he is level 33. He is one Elixir short of making his first minor CHoM and has the gold to do so (albeit there won't be much spare afterwards) and may initially make a "Summoner" CHoM to add some Spirit Wolves to his 28 Ravens before being able to summon them himself at level 40. I'll do that if my next DoE run doesn't come up with the required Elixir. The only monsters that now give him any trouble are Tombrats. Everything else is too stupid but they just keep targeting him instead of his Ravens. Hit-run-hit-run......nothing cowardly about it....it's called "self-preservation" :

His gear could be better but isn't too shabby....

RUNEWORDS

"Booster" - 6 charms (various sizes), boots and belt.
"Trinket" - Tall Charm.
"Foundation" - Quad Charm (El, jew, jew, El - jewels are a Grape Seed and an Orange Seed).
"Doh" - Skull Cap (Eth, Eld).
"Salutations" - Buckler (Eld, El, Standard Diamond).

Other Items

Torso - 3 soc with 3 chipped rubies.
Gloves - 2 soc with 2 chipped sapphires.
Spiked Club - 3 soc with 3 chipped sapphires.

Life is around 700 and mana 350'ish. Right!! Back to it :!:

Ooh, I'm fairly new at Zy-El, but this might just be the thing to get me going and really understand the game.

I'm shamelessly copying your score sheet Al-T. Is that okay?

Code: Select all

Team:Saved By The Bell

Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act
--------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------
Kelly/Amazon 1 Normal/1 Lisa/Assassin 1 Normal/1
Slater/Barbarian 1 Normal/1 Belding/Druid 10 Normal/1
Screech/Necromancer 1 Normal/1 Zack/Paladin 1 Normal/1
Jessie/Sorceress 1 Normal/1

{Total 16      Position ????    Deaths 0}
Edit: Woo! I got a demon chest or something while hunting in the blood moor (killed an extra fast boss). It says (P)Xena to Catherine. Should I sell it for the 28K or wait until I get a Xena in order to change it to a Catherine? Or does it do something totally different?

Welcome to the tournament Loras :)

Being a hardcore tourney will definitely "force" you into learning the mod and please ask if there is something you are wondering about and can't find in this forum, the guide or wiki and I'll be happy to help.
I'm shamelessly copying your score sheet Al-T. Is that okay
Why reinvent the wheel :?: I copied one of mine from last year.

It's a "Demon Box" you found and while most of them require you to cube with a "Demon Key", that one requires you to cube it with a "Xena/Lucy Lawless" Major Celebrity Poster which will convert it to a "Catherine Zeta Jones" Major Celebrity Poster which may or may not get better stats. As it is unlikely for you to get any Major Posters until at the very best and with lots of luck, Act 5 normal, you have a couple of options....(1) Keep it until you have another 2 Demon Boxes that aren't going to give you a good output such as "Collect them All" and cube the 3 to output 1 new random Demon Box or (2) Sell it for your 28K gold. Early on I know which I would do but I'll leave it to you to make your own mind up ;)

Thank you and good luck with your ES challenge (I have been following your progress there as a lurker  ). Hope to see you here soon.

Happy Zy-Elling :)
-----------------

A small update from me. Not many levels gained so I'll not bother with the table but I did another couple of DoE runs with my Druid, level 35 now. No elixirs dropped so I just bought the last one I needed to make my first CHoM which I converted to a "Summoner" (chipped skull + chipped diamond) and will use it until level 40 at which point he will be able to summon Spirit Wolves on his own and convert it to a "Master" which will be much more beneficial at that point with the +4 all skills.

Happy Zy-Elling :)
-------------------
Update 06/06/2013: Managed to reach level 48 and have gone as far as killing the Countess and gaining all waypoints up to and including the Black Marsh. After killing Blood Raven I was lucky and got a cold rogue merc (who is now L27). She has pretty basic gear for now, the best of which are "Booster" belt & boots and a "Patiently" Long Bow (forgot which jewel I used but it adds AR).

Druid has replaced some of his equipment and has 3 minor CHoMs (2 Master and 1 Healer), a "Love Everlasting" Torso (Amn, Thul, Ort, Ral, Tal, Gmj...used a "Mouse Tail") which he got after rolling the armour a few times with "Any Armour to Magic Amour" common scrolls to get the 6 sockets. He also has a "Wolfpup" in a Wolf Head with 4 to Druid skills (threw 2 x 1 to Dru any helm scrolls at it) and replaced his weapon with a "Stoutnail" (rarely uses it). Can summon 44 Ravens and 23 Spirit Wolves but I am only summoning 20 Ravens with all the Wolves as I don't need any more. Still playing at Players 8 for relative safety. Back to it to get the "Malus" for Charsi.

Code: Select all

Back From The Dead

Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act
--------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------
BFD-I/Amazon 1 Normal/1 BFD-II/Assassin 1 Normal/1
BFD-III/Barbarian 1 Normal/1 BFD-IV/Druid 59 Normal/1
BFD-V/Necromancer 1 Normal/1 BFD-VI/Paladin 1 Normal/1
BFD-VII/Sorceress 1 Normal/1

{Total 65      Position ????    Deaths 0}
Happy Zy-Elling :)
-------------------

Carried on with my Druid who is now level 59 (updated table above), merc is 46 so she is keeping up rather well. Andariel is dead but as I can't start Act II until the rest of the team have completed the first Act I am just farming with him for items for the rest of the team. So far made 2 minor CHoMs, got a bunch of decent socketed charms for the rest of the team with reasonable damage and a bunch of 20 poison jewels (no level req :) ) and 4 to Minimum damage jewels (level req 6) to make their life easier as they will all start either meleeing or using ranged weapons. Once I have another CHoM I may start with one of the others, probably my Assassin. Also managed to get 2 minor posters and although my Druid can use them, being over level 50, they will be more useful on my other team members so they are just waiting until required at level 50.

To all intents and purposes it is, with Clersius as the clear winner :)

This is more of a personal challenge for me since I had been so close last year to getting all 7 characters to 10K before disaster struck and my old PC died  I want to see if I can (a) complete it this time and (b) aiming for zero deaths so I am playing extremely cautiously.
------------------

Druid is now level 64 and finally managed to make a crafted amulet using 7 x 3 of Talons. Would have been better on an Assassin or a Sorceress as they both had +6 skills while the Druid only had +3 but as I am a long way from getting a second amulet of this type I just decided to trim the excess skills to make it +3 all skills as all the other stats are useful, especially the 3K+ life and 273 all ressies. This way I can throw "+ X All Skills any item" cube scrolls at it as and when I find them. Also upgraded 3 sashes to a Demonhide sash, used Charsi's imbue reward to make it crafted and used the "life on level" recipe for it so he now has just under 6k life.

Assassin is now level 25 and may start the Den of Evil soon. In between levelling her and doing her quests I will continue farming the Inner Cloister with my Druid to get more minor CHoMs and other useful low level items for the remainder of the team. Already got 3 on the Assassin and 3 in the stash waiting for the next member of the team. Taking it slowly and cautiously...still haven't gone above Players 8.

Code: Select all

Back From The Dead

Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act

BFD-I/Amazon 1 Normal/1 BFD-II/Assassin 25 Normal/1
BFD-III/Barbarian 1 Normal/1 BFD-IV/Druid 64 Normal/1
BFD-V/Necromancer 1 Normal/1 BFD-VI/Paladin 1 Normal/1

I've started off with my necromancer first and have made slow and steady progress. Still basic equipment and no chom's. When I get enough stuff in the stash I will start my ACT 1 farmer.

I am going to be honest and also no offense: This was part of the reason I quit Zy-elling.

I dunno. As much as I think tournies are fun (this one, the no-equip tourney and the EM are my favorites), it's a real downer when 1 person comes in, does it in a few weeks and makes it look not only so easy, but it also makes me look like chopped liver to some degree.

Also, you guys haven't done updates on the Evolution Tournament, despite a small group of us making it to Act 5. Plus, I have 2 characters on Diablo III with 200k dps and can do everything on MP7 easily. I am just laying off Diablo III at the time because there is something wrong with my internet setup that is causing my modem to stroke out, from time to time, the expansion and itemization patches are coming soon.

If I come back to it, I think I'll do another No Equipment tournament like this one for kicks. That one was brutal!

Good maybe I can get off my lazy ass and get my monk to catch up to yours lmao

I could try a Cube Scroll only tourney or what I wanted to do years ago and do a tourney based off collector points and how the 'soul' of the collector(s) 'teaches' you how to use certain things. Im mean like that lol

After a long hiatus and a corrupted hard drive I'm back with another death. Allanon, my druid, died at the Outer Cloister from a Monolith. I need to get back into the groove of concentrating on HP and defense and not rushing things. I have some stuff in the stash for Jill to start next.

Do it! And I will be the neo-Clersius that breaks it! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *prepares novel writing*

As for this one, I can retry, but I cleaned out my characters so I have to do it from scratch. However, it will be easy for me to get everyone back up to code. I am the man with the plan after all! I WILL TAKE SECOND PLACE FROM ALL YOU AND THE WORLD WILL BE MINE! MINE I SAY!

I would also need to think of Digimon names for the characters.

=======================================================

It's time to fight fire with fire. This team is named after each of the Seven Great Demon Lords in the Digital World. Each correspond to a sin and
a different demon within Judeo-Christian mythology. I will start with a class I know how to do well to get back into the swing of things: The Druid.

http://digimon.wikia.com/wiki/Seven_Great_Demon_Lords

Edit: I am going to need someone's hardcore character files so I can enable hardcore. My Mod Manager needs at least 1 hardcore character to allow the Allow Hardcore flag to take effect.

Code: Select all

Seven Demon Lords

Name/Class Level Difficulty/Act
---------------------------------------------------
Beelzemon/Amazon 1 Normal/1

Jill is now level 42 and heading towards The Smith. I forgot how difficult it is to level an amazon to 40 without any twinking. Now that she's 40 though, Multishot is starting to make things a little easier. I have 1 Finder chom and a load of other little charms to help in needed areas. Will revisit her armor at 50 and make some new runewords.

The Amazon always has a rough time until she gets Multiple Shot.

It's basically spamming Magic Arrows until you get it. That skill also requires a hefty Energy investment AND Mana Per Kill on your part to maintain the costs. But once you make the Phoenix Runeword, you realize just how easy she is to play. Although you lost 2 characters so far, you've probably been pooling items, so it's not so bad the next time around. I also know what it's like to fall, I lost my first necromancer on p127 when a Dark Lancer bypassed my skeletons and stabbed me for a OHKO.

The Druid for me was always my starting class. I had success in the past with Ravens killing everything for me (it's how I managed to get a strong lead in the No Equipment tourney) until I got Wolves. I play him like an Elemental until I manage to get the items I need to do Lycan combat.

Your sorceress will be fine. Firebolt will be your Crossbow attack and Charged Bolt will allow you to decimate everything the act has to offer.

Edit: Thanks for the Hardcore character file.
Leviamon - The Druid
Not bad for my first time returning after a long hiatus. Made a Flawed Skull and bought enough starter gear, potions and a Book of TP. For a weapon, a Hand Axe with a chance to inflict Amplify Damage isn't bad either. At least until I get a 2 socket weapon for Steel.

The novel will soon come. It will depend how frequently things happen.
Leviamon - The Druid
With a bit of running around and patience, courtesy of a non-Spike Fiend roll and a Stamina Shrine, I was able to get to level 5 and learn Raven. Although Raven is the corner stone of my conquest to 40, it isn't much to look forward to at level 1. But as the Ravens level rises, it deals more damage, hits more and that one bird becomes a murder. Almost nothing is safe from them, not even Ogre Demons.

I had to use all my savings to purchase a Tir Rune to make Steel on a Short Sword. With it's bonus damage, attack rating and Mana per Kill, it will help starting my quest very efficiently until I get a Mace with this runeword. Plus, the weapon cannot break since it repairs itself every 20 seconds. I can hit everything in Blood Moor with as low as a 75% chance to hit (Skeletons). I also managed to pick up a stack of Javelins for long range kiting off a unique Quill Rat (Fire Enchanted, so birds had to finish it off). The Javelins are a good help against the Spike Fiends.

Part of my master plan will involve making as many starter weapons with Steel Runewords, so that I can start all my characters off easily and have spares should they fall in battle. It is a good thing that Blood Moor can drop from El to Ith Runes off enemies. I can also make them by cubing.

Sorc is now 22 and using a puppy wag ring and blowing everything away in Cold Plains at p8. Will make a table update when she finishes ActI.

Leviamon - The Druid
I managed to get enough money for a Cold Rogue after selling a few Jewels and Amulets that dropped. I gave her one of my Steel Short Swords as a starter weapon. I am still looking for a 2 socket Mace so I can do my Barb later on with it. I hit my first Cube Scroll and I got lucky: Chipped Gem to Tome of Identify. I got 60 Tomes for free. I still need a few more levels and I can do Den. Part of my conquering Den strategy requires a Poison Creeper and a murder of Ravens to kill everything for me. The Tomb Rats can be fought, but they need to be slowed first.

However, my murder works wonders vs the Cold Plains creatures. I cleared about half of it till I was attacked by Peckers. I did manage to escape and kill them via attrition. Now I am on the hunt for more Tir or higher Runes and start hording Booster Belts for all my characters. I don't think getting to 15 at this rate will be too much trouble (I require the Poison Creeper for kitefests).

==========================================================

I got to Level 15 and cleared the Den of Evil under those conditions. The Ravens really made things insanely easy and there were a few close calls from Tombrats. I also managed to get my 2 Tir Runes on the run to get my Booster Sash.

I went into Cold Plains again and I managed to pick up my first rare item: A wand with +3 Skeleton and +2 Mastery. That's a sweet way to start things off until I get those 2 os Runeword wands going. Now it's going to be a long road to Level 40, but at least I have a few Necromancer items to start off. I will still need to make another Steel Short Sword and Booster Sash when I start. After all, Skeletons without Mastery = bad.

Amongst my latest drops was a Club to War Hammer scroll. I got a War Hammer with +1 to Barb Skills and 3 Sockets as the outcome.

Afterwards, I launched an assault against Blood Raven at Level 19. She was destroyed by my flock of 17 Ravens and Poison Creeper. The other enemies didn't pose much of a threat either, not even a Cold Enchanted Mush Head. All I got for it was 500 Gold and 2 Rejuvenation Potions. But the experience is bringing me steps closer to my real goal: Attaining Level 40.

Which alas, got cut short evading Tombrats. Didn't pay attention and an Ogre Demon got the best of me and ended up re-configuring Leviamon. I think I should probably try again when I got something a little more solid, like Spirit Wolf or Fire Golem charge items. I'll do the Necromancer like I did last time. At least I managed to save a Spiked Club drop, my Gold and a large portion of my gems and runes to begin the next one. I'll be in Blood Moor until Skeleton Mastery, but at least the Skeletons without it can P127 the area once I get enough of them (and amplify damage).

I've taken a break from Esmerelda to work on Heath, my Paladin. A tall charm with dire wolves on it has made it pretty easy to play at p/16 the whole time. He's about to head to Tristram.

Edit: 4 done and working on my assassin. It's taken me awhile to get back into HC mode but I think I'm there.
