The Daily Sufferings of the lifeform they call Maxx Power

Post by Maxx Power » Tue Mar 04, 2003 1:09 am

This forum will be closed mainly, except when I decide to post on. So for about five minutes a day, it will be open, so you just MAY get a post it, but I doubt it. So what is this forum? Well, it's here for two reasons

1. To make sure the review forums has a recent date in its "last post" section of the forum, instead of something a good twelve days ago
2. To make it look like I'm doing something useful

What is going to be in this forum is a depiction of sorts of my life in general. Kinda like a diary, except twisted with lies and deceit to make it appear to others that my life is an exciting, roller-coaster of non-stop chills and spills. So, exactly like a diary then.....*cough*.......

o yeah, and for legal reasons, I'll be sticking something about mods on the end

Day 1:

Been having a really bad stomach bug as of late. Dyou know how you usually pee out the front? Well, I was peeing out of the back as well, which is never good. Consiquently, I took a day off college, and am now de-hydrated to the point where moving my head away from an upright position feels like the atmospheric pressure of the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, it really is that bad!

To make up for it, though, I tried to spend my time constructively this past sunday, by attempting to set-up my own, one-man travelling circus. Well, it wasn't really travelling, because I couldn't be bothered to move, and it wasn't a circus, because I didn't have a big top, any animals, or any performers. I DID, however, manage to balance a ball on my head for the better part of two seconds. Cirque Du Soleil have already sent letters begging me to stop taking away there business. Be sure to visit http://www.maxx-power.is-a-circus-freak ... bsite.porn

Tommorow I'm back at college. O wait, it IS tommorow here now! Two minutes into a new day, and I've done nothing useful! Better break out the ironing board.

Peace y'all, MP

(P.S. please download mods from the site, they're ever so good)

Taken another skive, I mean resting, day off college today to get over the "galloping dog rot" syndrome as my grandmother as dubbed it. It's been raining a lot, so I decided to gather some to create an aquarium. Unfortunatly, nobody cared to tell me that Makrel cannot survive in fresh water. Needless to say, it was returned to the local counter of Sainsburys Fishmonger's, with an official letter of complaint, and a damn good telling off.

Apart from that, nothing of any real interest happened today. O, except for me discovering the evil secrets behind Tik Taks, but you don't want to know about that.....

(p.s. download a mod. More bandwidth to Fileplanet. Bring down the proxy server! First one to cause total network failure wins a cash prize of at least $2!)

I'm not one to lead a normal life. Many will be content with creating their niche and sticking in it until the good lord deems it suitable enough for us to face eternal torment in the fiery pits of hell. Not me though! I'm up for interesting and exciting new ideas. One such thing is to attempt to play hellah ol' skool games via emulator.

After a sucessful run of downloaded Genesis roms (one of which was Mortal Kombat, and after watching the film, I've been picking fights with everyone, believing myself to be able to fly through the air shooting fireballs. They've yet to replace my gall bladder), I decided to try out "Sword of Vermillion" 'Try it out, its a classic' harped a friend of mine. 4/5 stars, said another non-descript site. Well then, must be good, the five people I've talked to about it haven't said it was s***.

So away I go, download the rom, and begin. To me, it seems obvious that the game was built by about, say, five different developers at the least. Imagine, if you will, a doom-style Real-time, stragetic RPG, with traditional stats, with a Dragon Quest style 'click-one-button-and-select-what-you-want', and a crappy plot (something about a king I forget). Now I'm not of a nervous disposition, but this game left me shaking.

It was total chaos. In battle, my little man flailed wildly with his blade in the same animated sequence, somehow switching his sword with his shield everytime he faced a different direction. Battle's were a nightmare. Suddenly surrounded by eight enemies, it's clear that either A) Every monster in the game is invisible until the point of attack or B) The main character is a total retard.

The 'doom-style' I mentioned comes from the Mode 7 graphics used in the overworld. If you don't know what I mean, think the original Super Mario cart mixed with Paint and your not far off. It gave a sense of dimension, but strike me down if I'm not 100% sure that the bloody trees moved whilst not looking. Wandering off on my travels only to find myself completely lost, and up against monsters that are too powerful for me. Jumping into battle against red blobs which moved ten times faster than I, I panicked. Down my HP drop. It was a long trip back to town.

Needless to say I'm not touching the thing again. I don't even know why I did this in the first place. Wait a sec, I do. Stupid B.net, disconnecting on me like that, look what its driven me to!

(ps Visit one of the links on the sites, especially to the french one. Vive la diablo!)

(pps thanks for the heads-up Jeff!)

"Faer mi fierwaal!!!1" was the cry emanating from my magic-find sorceress locked in battle with Mephisto. It's been a war-cry of sorts for me since my early days of diablo, when my first character, a fire wall + ice orb sorc, was doing cow runs. My haste to type in a battle cry resulted in the infamous "Faer mi fierwall!!!1", that's with three exclamation marks and a 1 after them. Anyway, back to my story. Fortieth magic find run, no luck, so I decide to go off. Five minutes later I get a message off MSN from a friend, asking if I want to start new characters with him and a few other diablo players we knew who happened to be on b.net at the time (I hang about in the Europe realm, though I'm not stupid enough to give out my account name(s) ). With this simple game, killing off monsters with other people my own level, no rushing, and no uber items given to us, I found that I enjoyed the game more than I had in months. It was a fantastic experience, although my fellow comrades did not think so (of course, they go about using ITH items and duping, but that's another story). I think it's interesting that the person who enjoyed it the most (beside myself) was another veteran of Diablo. A thirteen year-old from Manchester who for the purposes of this post will be known as Bob, was tutored by me in the ways of Diablo when he first started playing waaaayyy back in late 2001.

It's ironic, that the players who have tasted the higher echelons, who have held demi-godlike power in their hands, should find the eternal struggle of low-level characters so profounding. Perhaps its a desire to be a noob again, to feel the thrill of first killing Diablo, of finding your first unique, to be killed by another player, spending hours and hours trying to level up to kill them, only to be slaughtered by another character a good ten levels below you.

Perhaps v1.10 will bring this about. Perhaps I will finally have my "noobishness" back again, and sweet bliss will set in. In the meantime, all I can say is...FAER MI FIERWAAL!!!1

Wow. That's all I can say. Two days after posting my article on diabloii.net, and already I've got "fanmail"

righarts@xtra.co.nz writes:

Ahem, please explain this forum:

with which he zoinks me to the diabloii.net single player forum, to which I reply

This is a forum. It is used for people to have discussions and other such bartering. In this case, this forum is for people wishing to discuss Single Player diablo.

Nolan writes;

Hi there,
I read your article and I agree with most of what you said. I really
don't like the term noobs, though I'm not implying you made the word,
it's just that the scurrilous implication of the word is so often used
interchangably with players that are new to the realm and don't
understand the realm dynamics. These people are ridiculed for being new
and chastized for their ignorance when asking simple questions. That's
another thing I despise, is immaturity of many on the realm. If you've
experienced an MMORPG such as Everquest, people are rarely rude, they
share their knowledge and any confrontational experiences come from
nonplayer monsters. Rarely, unless a new player runs into a high
caliber person such as you or I, will they be tutored in the correct way
to play the game, and instead will develop what I like to call the "rush
mentality".
Anyhow, it's very difficult for me to find people who will play
legitimately such as the way you describe. I had a friend for a time
that I would play with, but he lost interest in the game. We would help
each other and share our drops as a joint effort, only using what we
found and never twinking. Anyhow, if you are in need of a legitimate,
honest companion on the realms to play legitimate games with, let me
know. I would enjoy very much playing again. Maybe we could get a
group together. Let me know either through email or through my account
(I'm rarely on anymore, but the account I've been playing is BoogieEX.
Thanks, -Nolan Brunstad

Looks as though I've made a friend (sort of), and I didn't even do anything! Damn I'm good. My reply to which is;

Coolio. East, West, or Europe? I'm Europe!

short and sweet, that's my motto!

joesterrr seems to think little of my testicular fortitude...

I agree with most of your ideas, especially the hacking, the noobs, and
the stupid sorc's that are rampant all over bnet. My question to you
is: WHY THE HECK TO YOU STILL PLAY SOFTCORE!??! Softcore contains at
least 5x the morons that hc has, and only hc veterans can truly call
others noobs. The problem is, most people rush to the cows b/c they
can't stick up their char with the proper vitality and resistance
equipment throughout the game, so rushing and more stupid people and
stupid cows are there. The cool part is, there usually is only 1 game
to join in hell, unless you join at prime time, in which case there are
maybe 5 to 7 games available to join. Since stupid lvl 98s die for good
when they get screwed in the cow run, there are less morons to cater to,
and thus a less iritating environment. It's just annoying to hear their
whining and complaining on how they spent all that time on that
character, when they don't realize that playing the game is a pastime
anyways and all time spent into the game is wasted time, so why not
waste it on hardcore?

joesterrr

Obviously I'm not "Xtreme" *cough* enough for joesterrr. Two reasons why I don't "waste time" on hardcore. 1: Bad connections on b.net make it still 2: PKers, PKers and more PKers. I didn't reply to this one. I don't think my reply would be able to "touch the g-zone" with joe here....

.... ad6un@juno.com goes on to give the first well-written e-mail yet

I just finished reading your top 10 most annoying aspects of Diablo2x,
and I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I too, play the game
completely legit, never once touched a white ring or an ITH sword, never
used map hack, and never want to, and play through each act in it's full,
completing every quest. I only trade with friends online that I know
don't use any hacks, and refuse to trade in a public game, especially
with anybody who spams out semi-phrases like "ccb 1 soj ccb 1 soj ccb 1
soj." I ask anybody who demands me to rush them if they have ever once
tried playing through, but they don't answer me (figures). I absolutely
cannot stand trying to find a hell difficulty game that doesn't have a
name like "cow###", "moo###", or the popular "cowmoo###". In my opinion,
if there were no dupes, no map hack, and the monsters were more diverse
in their attacks (All the monsters either run up to you to fight melee,
or stand still shooting at you, even if you run up to them and hit them),
and the only challenge didn't come from the instant death of multishot
lightning uniques, or extra fast extra strong uniques with the fanaticism
aura jumping you on your flank, and there was monster randomization like
in the first Diablo, then the game would be a real challenge. No more
level 2s and 3s going after Andariel, dying a ton of times while
attempting to convince you to come die with them, then leaving the game
in total failure. It has been said monster randomization will be a
reality when v1.10 is released, so maybe that issue will finally be
addressed. No guest article has been more true and to the point than
yours. It's good to know I'm not the only one who's actually playing
Diablo2 the right way.

This man is smart. Take note everyone. THIS is how you speak english

chado1@cox.net says

great article, i agree with you on most points. I have just recently
relearned the joy of actually PLAYING d2, instead of rushing up to a
high level. i have played since the day it came out, and plan on doing
some real playing from now on. thanks for the article.

Smart man. Yet another one. Obviously the morons aren't as manic as I believed. Either that or they can't figure out how to use e-mail

archangelxen@hotmail.com goes on further

Amen. You have labled most of the aspects of Diablo 2 I despise. Of
course just about everyone forgets lazy programming and repetitve
gameplay, but for some reason even I can stand that.

I didn't forget it, I can just stand it as well.....

mannymartino@gmx.net wants but a friend....

Hiya! I loved the guest article. It was amusing, a good read, and
most importantly true. Since my friends all stopped playing, I'm
always looking for someone with intelligence to play with in the old
fashioned way. Call me a beggar and a chooser, but if you ore any of
your friends ever want a second or third player, I'm on most of the time
on the account *%%$^##%&.

Lonely and honest diablo addict

His/her sig describes me to a T. Interesting stuff, probably psychologically significant, somehow....

I've missed out a few e-mails here, but this one is probably one of my favourites....

Dear Maxx Power,

Oh my, so very true your article is. Somehow, I want
to print this out and etch it onto a miniature red hot
iron and brand it into every complete moron's cornea.

I'd like to see that day of giant cows with 100,000
hit points which gives 1 experience point and low
quality, cracked sashes with triple immune. I'd like
to add resistent to physical, the infamous pre-v1.07
Lord De Seis only ability: Thief, and each of them has
50% chance to cast Level 20 Fire Wall when hit. :) Oh
and the cow king has a level 18 Might aura, so that
every single cow in the field gets it also. And the
maximum gold they will ever drop is your character's
amount of keys divided by the amount of 'normal'(non
magical, socketed, set, crafted, unique) items you
own. :)

That'll be the day.

I think after v1.10, everyone'd be doing 'Blood Moor
Runs' instead. Hee.

From a fellow legit player since the very beginning,
who actually stops to enjoy the nice background
information when 'Gossip'ing with the NPCs

Well, its started off polite, then it went off a bit, and it just took a nosedive into insanity, and didn't come back up. This man is mental. Why can't we be more like him?

Anyway, I'm done totting my own horn. This is probably the most significant piece of writing since my Ancient:TFW review. Two in one sitting....can't be bad

O what it is to have to replace your diablo cd. Those friggin' things are supposed to have a data-life of around one hundred years, not three! O well, I've abused it beyond belief, so now it's been passed on to a good friend of mine without the internet (meaning his copy of diablo is useless really). As for patch v1.10, its very close. BLOODY close, infact. You can feel change's clammy hand on your shoulder. Look behind you, he's there! See?

So what changes with the patch, you'll probably should be thinking. Well, I asked Bill Roper himself, who had this to comment

"What, Diablo? Not to sure really. Go ask Jim"

So I did

"Ah the patch? Well, nothing much really, mainly bug fixes that could've been done with v1.09d"

Lies methinks, hence my trip to G Frazier's stronghold

"Get the hell out of my house you little s*** or I'll set the f***ing dogs on you!"

Strongs words from Blizzard, obviously, but what do I think will change with the patch?

I think this picture pretty much shows us what we can expect from the new patch. Apparently Blizzard are going all out, with new graphics, monsters, levels and even classes! O joyius day!

Guess what this post is for? Two reasons

1: To look as though the mod reviews forum has been posted on recently. I know many people won't post on inactive forums, that's for sure

2: To show off my snazzy new avatar, which I made just now, right here, using Paint Shop Pro and Paint. It's a self-portrait, dontcha know? I look exactly like that, hair n everything, 'cept I have a nose and a mouth for breathing/smelling/talking/eating/sucking/etc.

That's about it. I'm off to have lunch.

Can you hear it? Over there, by the bushes. It's silent, but it's there. You seen it in short burst, only for a few seconds, but you captured it in your mind, scrutinised it. But look, its out in the open for an hour! You look at it quickly before it scurries off. Damn, it's away again. But you managed to get a lot of information about it. Now its running again. You lie in wait. Then, you see. It's coming. Over the horizon. Dear lord! So evil, yet so beautiful. This could change your life. It's nearer now. Yes. You can see it, hear it, hell you can smell it. It smells like...victory. Yes. It's close now, it's almost here, it's almost within your grasp.

patch v1.10 is almost here...
It's coming...
THEY'RE coming...

For the first time in my exsistence I have launched a mod, and NO ONE has got a word to say about it? Come on, people! I slagged off every single mod maker out there, totally slated the most loved mod ever (the disgustingly vile TFW) and quite frankly got under everyone's skin. And finally, after so long, I have a go myself, and no one's gonna try to take me on? It's the diablo modding equivalent of Simon Cowell bringing out a pop record! Or are you all too scared? Yes, that's it. Your all a bunch of wimps, namby pamby little girls who are too scared to take me on. Come on your you wussies, Maxx Power is here, and I ain't f****** about!!!!

Its the big diabloii.net forum experiment!

Post by Maxx Power » Sat Jun 28, 2003 11:14 am

OK, I know, diabloii.net forums = big no no, but I thought hey, they're decent blokes. I'm sure they'll be helpful

O how wrong I was....

Anyway, here's a link to the actual post I made. Basically I put up a sorc build that I tend to use, and works very well. Note the start of the post

http://forums.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?postid=37255

Now before you start, I want constructive criticism.

Constructive. As in, NO INSULTS BOYS! Obviously I used words to big for them. And what dyou know, first post it starts already

So basically... all it is, is a Tri-Elemental Sorc who has to walk everywhere and needs to be lvl99 to complete the build. She also needs an inexplicably rare Orb to be just like a normal sorc.

Way to {filtered} all over my build alainpp66, e-mail alainpp66@hotmail.com . Obviously he didn't take the time to actually read it. He'll would have known that you simply have a + teleport item in your stash for emergencies, and that at level 80+, all your doing is adding points into Fire Mastery, to pump up damage to an already powerful Hydra.

Also, battle sorc is SUCH a lame name ~.~ Try maybe Guerilla Sorc or Assult Sorc

Firstly, it's Assault. Maybe the guy should think about his lame spelling before my lame naming. Also, the term battlesorc was dubbed by the majority of people on the realms who saw the build, so it's less my name anyway. (p.s. post by amishamigo, unknown e-mail, but what you gonna do?)

Usually I'd probably get into trouble for doing something like this, but this is my board, and it was a funny experiment. I'll be posting up any hate-mail/ flaming pm's I get through the forums. I ain't touching diabloii.nets with a ten foot Maxx Power pole, that's for darn sure.

It's about time I updated this particular board. I've been neglecting it as of late due to other commitments. So this is gonna be an update of my life of sorts, so here goes.

First bit of news would be my love-life, or lack thereof. Anyone who knows me well can tell you I'm a chronic depressive at times, and the main reason behind this is my complete lack of female contact during my whole life. i.e. I'm desperate. Thus the news that the only female who I could possibly have a chance with, whom I also liked, was already involved with another guy, gutted me, filletted me, scooped me out and left me with no hope. It's partially my fault. She started blanking me (ignoring me) last year after christmas, and I never had the courage to go talk to her. So there we go. I'm not too sure what I'm gonna be feeling about this. When I found out the news I was ok with it. Now I ain't so sure. I'll probably completely lose it sometime in the near future. And whoever's in the way at the time is going down. I will NOT, however, accept just any offer, be they from some gorgeous lass (woman) in the street, some random peep on the internet, or a letter written in blood. I'm picky, and it causes problems.

Secondly, college is going....well it's just going. I ain't doing incrediably well, I'm not doing that badly. I'm even stevens. This again is a big problem. Onceover, school was everything. I had to be top all the time. Now I just don't give a f***. Hence my general lack of reason for life as a whole.

Thirdly, my evil evil nightmares still plague me. Sleeping is becoming something to fear. Actually, seeing what I've just written, I can see why these nightmares are so damned constant. Maybe I should go see a shrink or something, or one of those councilor people. O wait, I ain't got any money to go to one.....dang!
