I've checked my mod directory

CW-AT will end up into a 125 Mb files ... and probably be thrice this size at the end of the developement !!!
The final product will hold a bi surprise BUT this surprise will rockett the file size to 300+ Mb !!!

OMG dial up users will flame me to death :cry:

The original game is over 2GB, with LoD added and a full install. Any serious change will be large. Make it downloadable in chunks and we will be okay. (Heck, 100MB+ files take quite a while to download even with DSL.)

As soon as a d/l is over 20 Mb, it doesn't matter anymore. Mine is heading for the 30 Mb - without the sound effects and music. :)

For antichrissakes - if it seems too big, leave out some music and monsters. Don't QUIT because of it. Pleeeease! :-|

i would download if it was 500mb!!! this mod looks really good so dont let the size of the mod stop u...ppl will dl it n as long as its good ppl will dl it

I'll probably download it at that size or higher, it looks cool enough that I don't care, if you havn't allready try using ACE compression on it, though I'm guessing that your allready compressing it some how

It should be possible to make several zip, by acts for instance. It's some more works to do of course, but that may be a solution : play act 1, and to kill Boss 1 download the act 2 zip. To beeing able to kill Boss 2, download act 3, and so on. Each zip can have its own ds1 in order to block the player to go too far to the Boss, and the next zip have the same ds1 that unlock the player.

That way the player can test a mod and download what he needs at his own speed.

And don't tell me you didn't think of it ;)

Yep yep , the core mods is a big patch_d2.mpq of 97Mb ... compressed by ACE and holding every WAV into MP3...

Now, 'ill make a zip by difficulty each holdinh the data neede for each chapter ... another 100Mb per mpq ...

The Dll : 5Mb

+ the installer and patcher/launcher ... 1Mb

Total Size compressed, ready to d/l : 403 Mb (at least)

hmmm seems file planet will have to burn CD quite often ...

300 mb would take around 30 min on my aol dsl line well then it matters how fast the server is ... *grummel*

Even if it's 400mb or so there are download accelerators - you can download part by part...

Well some infos about files size :

Currently the mode is made of a pack of 5Mb DLL files (1st part)
Then I made a first patch_d2.mpq of 127Mb.
The launcher and installations cript take up to 1Mb
current total : 133 Mb (nice)

Well but here's aonly a THIRD of the mod !!!
2 other patch will be on and will be around 120Mb too
So a total of 133+240 --> 375Mb compressed
On the HD, it uncompress to a 800Mb files folder ;)

Hope the mpq could go OVER 100 Mb ... :(

my mod was about 350 mb for a while then realized the music was about 250 of that, just get rid of the music and shoudlnt be that bad. music dosent really do much anyway

I fully agree with Joel - the music is essential!!!!!!!! There are some games, which I play xth time just to listen to the music - mainly they're japanese games...like ff, suikoden, tales of destiny, but also heroes of m&m ( 2 ). I also have music from these games in mp3 format... so please Joel, don't even think of deleting the music!

Joel, just make the music a separate download. I think this is the most convenient method for everyone.

Yep, it's good idea to make it separete download... and Om, I agree that d2 had good music, but after so much time playing d2 I'm tired of this... nowadays I turn it off to listen to sth else...

After 50 Mb file size ceases to be an issue. Anyone who can d/l 50 Mb can download 300. As long as it is not above 800 or I can't put it on a CD-R. :)
