My 1.11 mod: The Sin War (TSW)

Based on D2X 1.11b, designed for veterans and experts.

Features: 1) higher difficulty, 2) battlefield atmosphere, 3) skill and
item balance, and 4) demand for strategy and technique.

Caution
‧The Sin War mod is designed for veterans and experts. Most changes
work in Hell difficulty only. Creating new characters is neither
required nor suggested. Prepare your old heroes well for extreme
intensity in Hell.

Characters
‧Added new skill sounds and overlays.
‧Removed skill cast delay.
‧Greatly increased resistance penalty in Hell difficulty (-150).
‧Greatly decreased walk/run speed, increase stamina draining speed.
‧Greatly decreased chance of shield blocking.
‧Greatly changed skill abilities, damage, mana cost and synergies.
‧Slightly changed life/stamina/mana bonus per level.

Hirelings

Monsters
‧Added new types, abilities, resistances, immunities.
‧Added new super unique monsters from Diablo 1.
‧Decreased leech drain. Undead can't be leeched.
‧Made monsters smarter, stronger and more aggressive.
‧Removed blocking except knights, blood angel and Talic.
‧Removed monster properties of the Summoner, Nihlathak, the Ancients
and made them human enemies.
‧Removed the Cow King.

Levels
‧Added camels in Lut Gholein.
‧Added new background music.
‧Greatly increased monster density.
‧Slightly increased number of champions and unique monsters.
‧Slightly increased item drop rate and quality in the Cow Level.
‧Disabled teleporation through walls and objects.
‧Disabled teleporation in Duriel's Lair and on the Arreat Summit.

Items
‧Added new sounds and graphics.
‧Added new Horadric cube transmuting formulae.
‧Added 3 class-specific items: scepters (pal), staves (sor), wand (nec).
‧Added use to Standard of Heroes. Right click to gain golden holy aura.
‧Capped one-handed weapons socket number at 3.
‧Rare and crafted items can have only 1 socket.
‧Enabled ladder runewords with minor changes: "Fortitude" and "Phoenix"
work on weapons only.
‧Disabled graphics of complete set bonus.
‧Disabled prefixes/suffixes based on character level.
‧Disabled non-class skills, procing skills and charged skills.
‧Greatly changed abilities of perfect gems.
‧Greatly increased defense of plate mails with high strength requirement.
‧Slightly decreased block chance of shields.
‧Slightly decreased base speed of phase blade (-25) .
‧Slightly improved greater life/mana potion.
‧Slightly improved original and expansion sets.

4 sockets for large, 3 sockets for medium, 2 sockets for small, and 1
socket for empty (circlets).

Modifiers
‧Added new magic-only prefixes: Hibernal, Condensing, Shocking, Ruby,
Sapphire, Amber, Emerald, Valkyrie's, Berserker, Priest's, Necromancer's,
Arch-Angel's, Hierophant's, Witch-hunter's, Mechanic's, Holy, Cruel.
‧Added new magic-only suffixes: of Atlas, of Transcendence,
of Incineration, of Winter, of Storms, of Anthrax, of Defiance,
of Lamprey, of Vampire, of Quickness, of Deflecting, of Stability,
of Magus.

Amazon
‧Inner Sight is casted on self to increase base attack rating.
‧Strafe, Jab, Fend does 75% weapon damage.
‧Multiple Shot does 50% weapon damage.
‧Critical Strike's chance of doing double damage is capped at 25%.
‧Lightning Bolt does not convert physical damage to lightning damage.
‧Poison Javelin bug fixed. Poison damage does not stack in time span.
‧Impale has normal attack speed, no more long animation.
‧Immolation Arrow has larger radius of firewall and does higher damage.
‧Decoy shows icon on screen and requires bonus skill points to increase
hit points.

Assassin
‧Psychic Hammer always knocks back enemies.
‧Dragon Talon starts with 1 kick. Bonus skill points increase number
of kicks.
‧Shock Web and Blade Sentinel have shorter next-delay.
‧Fade boosts physical resistance only and reduces magical damage.
‧Cloak of Shadows has greater radius of effect and longer duration.
‧Trap number is capped at 3, and trap shooting time is capped at 5.
‧Fists of Fire, Claws of Thunder and Blades of Ice use faster animation.
‧Blade Sentinel and Blade Fury have higher base damage but receive
less bonus (25%) from weapon damage.
‧Mind Blast can not convert monsters.
‧Death Sentry has lower damage of corpse explosion.
‧Blade Shield has higher base damage and receives more bonus (50%)
from weapon damage.
‧Weapon Block requires actual skill points to increase chance of blocking.

Barbarian
‧Bash does higher post-damage.
‧Increase Speed is changed into Increase Stamina Recovery.
‧Iron Skin boosts physical resistance instead of defense rating.
‧Concentrate receives more magic damage from Berserk.
‧Frenzy works when weilding one weapon.
‧Berserk does more damage with longer vulnerable time.
‧Battle Cry decreases physical resistance instead of damage of enemies.
‧Battle Order provides less bonus for hit points and mana.
‧Battle Command increases all attributes instead of skill levels.
‧War Cry has reduced stun length and does magic damage.
‧Natural Resistance provides hidden magic resistance at the cost of
actual skill points.
‧Whirlwind does 75% weapon damage and decreases chance of shield blocking.

Druid
‧Lycanthropy does not increase hit points in animal form.
‧Werewolf provides less speed and Werebear provides less defense.
‧Feral Rage has no life-stealing and moving speed boost.
‧Fury does 75% weapon damage.
‧Fire Claws works only in werebear form.
‧Hunger receives no damage penalty.
‧Poison Creeper does higher poison damage.
‧Oak Sage bug fixed.
‧Arctic Blast has higher damage and longer cold length.
‧Armageddon and Hurricane have shorter next-delay.
‧Armageddon works only in human form.
‧Spirit of Barbs reflects higher damage back at attackers.

Necromancer
‧Weaken reduces 67% enemy damage.
‧Corpse Explosion does lower physical and fire damage.
‧Bone Wall, Bone Prison have higher hit points and resistances.
‧Clay Golem has better minimal slow effect.
‧Blood Golem transfers more stolen life to caster and receives
more healing from caster.
‧Iron Golem, Blood Golem carry no auras.
‧Iron Maiden reflects higher damage back at attackers.
‧Life Tap provides less damage-heal effect.
‧Lower Resistance lowers less elemental and poison resistance.
‧Decrepify reduces 33% speed, damage and physical resistance of enemies.
‧Revive provides less number, hit points bonus and duration to pets.

Paladin
‧Sacrifice does 1% damage to self.
‧Zeal does 75% weapon damage.
‧Blessed Hammer receives no bonus from Concentration.
‧Conversion extends duration over 16 seconds.
‧Holy Shield requires actual skill points to boost physical resistance
and reduce magical damage.
‧Might has chance of crushing blow. Thorns has chance of open wounds.
‧Blessed Aim prevents monster heal and has chance to pierce.
‧Concentration increases uninterrupt chance and skill levels.
‧Sanctuary bug fixed. Damage bonus to undead can normally work.
‧Conviction reduces little enemy defense.
‧Resist Fire/Cold/Lightning increases max resistance and absorbs damage.
‧Cleansing increases max poison resistance.
‧Vigor provides hit recovery rate instead of moving speed.
‧Meditation absorbs magic damage. Salvation absorbs elemental damage.

Sorceress
‧Warmth provides less mana recovery rate.
‧Fire Bolt has faster flying speed.
‧Inferno ignores fire resistance and immunity of demon.
‧Hydra has number limit of 30.
‧Telekinesis always knocks back or stuns enemy.
‧Static Field will not take a monster below 67% hit points in Hell.
‧Energy Shield absorbs more damage with less mana cost. 1 point of
damage absorbed, 1 mana deducted.
‧Thunder Storms increases repeating speed and searching radius.
‧Ice Bolt has faster flying speed.
‧Blizzard has longer missile delay and smaller radius.
‧Cold Mastery reduces less cold resistance of enemies.

TSW is a world without uber items and overpowered skills. To some extent you play as if you were in Classic Diablo 2, even Diablo 1. Make best use of skill and strategy to survive. Careless rushing definitely leads to death IN SECONDS.

Legions of Hell around the last two waypoints in each act are strong and lethal. Most of them are immune to certain AI-switching skills such as terror, howl, confuse, attract, conversion and revive. Bad news for necros and pallies. Team-play is necessary for adventurers trying to defeat the Prime Evils. In TSW there are no god-like heroes, we all are mortal.

I restored many Diablo 1 monsters and music to TSW. Here are a few screenshots:
