Rage of Ancestors

Rage of Ancestors mod
LoD v1.10

I have began work on a mod because playing diablo had became boring with time.
Normal difficulty was too easy, Hell was too hard for hand to hand and others small defaults destroyed my passion. :cry:


:roll: This mod is based on few main concepts about gameplay:

Items can't be repaired to force players to change their equipment.Playing through 6 levels without
changing armor or weapon is too boring and not realistic.

More levels are required to learn skills to correct a major default of the game.At level 35 all the skills are
known then it's always the same skills which are increased.Boring and the game fantasy is lost too soon.

Monsters are numerous and harder to kill to add more challenge and to show that the world of Wendmar is in
War.More adrenalin as in diablo 1 where any step can be fatal.


:mrgreen: It is based on some background ideas inherent to the world of Wendmar:

Parallel at the physical universe exists an immaterial plane called Warp.Each being diffuse a psychic entitie
called spirit or soul which is interactive with in the Warp.

The world is dived in a permanent eclipse caused by the enter of the Warp dimension in reality.Witout it, warp
influence is too weak and daemons can't penetrate the material structure of reality.

Magic exists only by the Warp alteration then all magic items are the random results of warp fields.Humans
don't know how to control them, it's a lost knowledge of our ancestors.Before the Warp coming, characters
was common human.Under the warp influence, they have developed magic skills.

The mankind is descendant of the Eldar race the ancient fathers of humanity.All their works have been lost
through the time and their blood is now weak.That's the reason of the mankind decay in the art of magic and
science.

Legends have entered in reality. The Warp is immaterial, without time or space limits.Then collective myths and
imaginary creatures dreamed by the mankind impregn the reality.


:) Items
one new item for allow repair: there exist a special item used by a cube recipe to give the autorepair affix.Then player keep their fav items.
one new class item for amazon,paladin,barbarian,sorceress,druid
one indestructible itemtype
set and unique have random stats and drop are allowed for least leveled monsters


:cool: The mod is still under construction it is always UNBALANCE.
The "Warp" idea is taken from the warhammer universe developed by Games Workshop.
All your suggestions will be heard.

future ideas:
try to render the weird ambiance of warp distorsion with
*change of monster's colors, name or visual fx
*negative stats on items

also
*an upgradable charm
*new sets and few uniques
*background considerations/coherence are my actual matters ;)

Sounds rather interesting, in a positive sort of way.
I like that "no repair" idea, in combination with the (hopefully rare+expensive) autorepair cube recipe this would be real fun to play.

The 'no repair' thing is one of the key aspects of Ironman-style mods (that I enjoy very much :) ); the ability to endless repair items is certainly unrealistical, unless it can be done with magical means, in which case it should cost a LOT; of course, that would mean a complete change in the game economy, to make money much harder to accumulate.

:arrow: The item which gives the autorepair is named Moon Stone.
It's dropped as any other item, but it can't be bought or sale.
This choice may seem generous but chances to obtain one are not large.I think it's important for players to keep unique, set or very good item because the game doesn't have significant better drops.
Anyway items became obsolete and players will find items during their progress.

:roll: News:
i have integrated Totem and around 40 Souls.
i have reconsidered the number of monsters because they was too much!
superuniques are more numerous.
screenshots are available on the site at the diablo2/download/ section, clicking on the camera.

i 'm working on balance in normal difficulty

It is always a sad day to close down a mod, and usually that is the end of it. Today I am happy to do the opposite, and open this thread up for further business! Underkor has returned to the modding world.

I got this error when trying to start this mod: 19:54:34.296 Opening Direct3D window at 640x480...
19:55:13.218 ***** DirectDraw error: CreateSurface failed! - DDERR_CURRENTLYNOTAVAIL (0x88760028)

any ideas on what could cause this?

You get the error when u reach what place ?

I have install graphic plugins for arreat summit, lut golein and catacomb level 4.I only tested the lut golein one.

If it's a probleme at the starting i dont know why.

Edit 1:
I have tried the catacomb 4 plug in and it's work.
I have reinstalled the mod with the last version (the 9th) and no error at starting or opening of character.But it's with amy harddrive backup and I hope that my website server is not buggy with zip files.

On the keep i have searched the error message "DDERR_CURRENTLYNOTAVAIL" and find nothing about it.
It seems to be relative to graphx.

Can u send me the whole log file with the error by email ?


Edit 2:
The arreat summit plugin is not bugged.
I dont know how resolve the pb.

New update is available fixing bugs on skill.txt caused by MS excel

Hey there, just downloaded your mod, once I finish reinstalling Diablo 2 I'll let ya know what I think of it. Looks good from what I've read.

It was when starting the game. Opening screens didn't work.
I found out that d2game.dll, d2common.dll, d2client.dll, d2grfx.dll, d2win.dll, and storm.dll were for some unknown reason deleted from the d2 directory. Once I put them back it worked.
Still have no idea why them were deleted in the first place, but oh well, lucky I kept some backups :)

If you run a modscript those files was probably just renamed instead and in that case you had probably a crash earlier and the files never got renamed the correct name back.

In the zip file there is a batch use for install.
This file use the MS DOS command RENAME which works as this:
rename filename newname
if the newname dont exists the file is renamaed
if a file with the newname exists the command do nothing.

The command works also with folder names.

The bat file only rename the save folder and the Dgame.dll
When u install the mod it renames them adding "_ORI" at the end
When you restore original files it renames them adding "_ROA" at the end (mod) and renames "_ORI" suppressing the "_ORI" extension.

Then my files aren't responsible of the disparition of others files than D2game.dll or save folder. 8-O

HOPEFULLY it works and u cant lost D2game.dll or the save folder :)

EDIT 1:
dont use the batch files it lose your D2game.dll.

Update 11 for the mod.
Fix some txt file errors.The good install files are into but in the case of make a hand copy of your D2Game.dll

The mod comes back in its version 12 with new features:

# install files are fine ( but make a backup of D2Game.dll to be sure ;) )

# skills are learned on a upgradable charm

# gems are rarer but more attractive

# the game doesn't inonde the players with magic items

# some code editings in D2Game.dll

# and other forgotten things

# Lut-Golein plugin still randomly bugs with certain character (impossible to reach the game)
