Project Overview

Hello everyone. Here's the general overview of our project:
  • Full conversion of D2;
  • A brand new story in the world of Elder Scrolls;
  • Recreate all 9 provinces of Tamriel and the continent of Akavir;
  • New Characters: all 7 vanilla chars will be remade from scratch to fit the lore of Elder Scrolls;
  • All areas and maps will be remade from scratch, and will be based in Elder Scrolls universe;
  • All 2d images (items, UI) will be drawn from scratch to fit the new 32 bit engine D2GFEx by Necrolis;
  • New quests will be designed to suit the story;
  • All sounds and speeches will be recorded from scratch in a professional studio;
  • New music will be written to fit the atmosphere of the game;
  • New modding tools will be designed in order to make the development process more natural;
To sum up, the idea is to discard all d2’s assets and use only the engine. All assets (2d, 3d, sounds, gfx, etc) will be created from scratch.

Since the project is in early development, I want to get as much feedback/ideas as possible. Please feel free to post suggestions and ideas or maybe join the team. Looking forward to it!

That sounds like you and your team really have your work cut out for you. I'd estimate this to be work for a group of 30 people full-time for a year. Good luck, sounds very promising!

No offense, but if you're going to throw out all D2 assets, what's the point in using a 20-year-old buggy engine? Have you looked at other game development tools? Perhaps there might be a newer, better game to start with as the basis for modding.

Hey. You are talking about other engines. They are all 3D. But they all have a lot of bugs. The task is described above. And this is a mod based D2.

If we make an Elder scrolls game in one of those engines, the project will be immediately shut down. In order to be in green zone this needs to be a mod. If you look at Moddb website, there are many Elder scrolls mods for other games (total war, mount and blade etc). I talked to creators of those mods, they said the never had problems with Bethesda. Also one of the reasons is that they make their own assets.

:) Old engines are not suitable for new games. After all, it takes a lot of time to build graphics for D2. Maybe it's much easier to make a web game.
