Is it okay to copy guides to my site w/ attributions?

Post by mmpx222 » Sat Jan 18, 2020 2:18 am

I've been keeping a private copy of Phrozen Keep's file guides, making enhancements such as:
  • Adding tables of contents
  • Re-formatting them to improve readability
  • Adding missing info, fixing invalid info
  • Adding inter-document links for easier browsing
Is it okay to publish them to the web? Assuming the original authors are properly attributed (in a formal style, such as APA), and links to the original guides are provided. There seems to be no rule about site content licenses in the ToS.

Well generally we prefer that you link back to the tutorial on the Keep; this keeps everything in one place (specifically a place that will not be lost to the sands of time like so many other smaller sites tend to).

If you have made improvements to existing tutorials I do urge you to submit the improvements to an admin or moderator; we have been slowly and methodically improving the existing file guides and tutorials (a few are a little bit more borked than the rest due to missing images). And if you have a new guide or tutorial you are welcome to submit those as well.

@Necrolis,

Thank you for your answer, but I have one more question.

Can I ask you to develop something like an interactive forum map, including access to the problems, guides, walkthroughs, tutorials and tools from one place?
I am asking this because the people I referred here do not want to use this forum, justifing that they are lost in it.

Is Knowledge Base available in a systematic version in thematic groups?

It very much is; maybe you should actually take a look at it before posting these kinds of comments

It is literally in the menu to your left; more importantly Nizari already gave you a link. This is just sheer laziness.

We did not understand each other.

Take a look at this link:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34455

Similarly, it contains various guides, but in this particular case they are grouped thematically. If at the moment I need to check how to make a new projectile for Armageddon animation, I know where to look for it.

In the Knowledge Base letter you attached ... this is not so obvious. There are a lot of valuable topics, some problems are still open inspiring, others already started, but not solved, tempt to try their own hand. It's all great, but when someone needs * the basics * it's hard for him to get into such a storm of content.

I just mean the basic tools, so that they are grouped in the form of very specific links, something like: basic tools and how to use them -> guides + tools + e.g. tutorials / ordered thematically. Just like in this wonderful link I posted here.

It seems you didn't understand me: there is a drop down box that groups the tutorials, it just so happens to default to "all"
Pretty much everything in that post links back to the Knowledge Base... And on top of that, if a user cannot use the Search function, be it via the KB or the forums, modding D2 is the least of their problems.
However, if you feel you can do better, you are welcome to contribute.
