Diablo III Beta Client is Public
I don't know how you guys deal with leaks, but I most certainly do my best to contain them. I've had the Beta client for a few weeks, but it seems as if someone else found it and leaked the hell out of it. It's no longer just in a tiny community, now it's all over the web. You guys being the expert Diablo Modders, I thought might want to start playing around with it.

I don't know what you have planned over here for D3, but I will have a D3 Modding Subforum over on DiabloFans when the time comes. Regardless, from what I've seen thus far... There's about 50 different container types, everything is a binary file, and it all needs to be reversed. I'm sure this isn't a big deal for you guys, but coming off of SC2, it sucks, haha. I was really hoping for the XML-style data, but oh well!
Anyway, just thought I'd give you all the heads up... whoever's left around here, that is.

it's nice see you here Sixen.
Feel free post any D3 related news, I saw Blizzard have lifted the NDA. So, there is no legal issues to not post anything anymore

Kingpin what is NDA?
Re: Diablo III Beta Client is Public
"non-disclosure agreement"
an agreement that you must not reveal any information about the beta (as it was in previous ones).
but this time there is no such thing, so (like kingpin said) its perfectly legal to share informations about the beta

Yeah, so far all I've gotten was a txt dump of the stl files and then the tex files in png format.
So yeah, the MPQ format is updated a little, but we got the Beta to Ladik, so his MPQ Editor is updated to support the D3 MPQ's. Make sure you grabbed the latest Beta version from his site.
Otherwise, like I said above, there's about 50 different file containers (I still can't believe they did it this way >.>) and they're all binary files.

Winmpq opens the d3 archives without problems(in fact they load up faster than d2's). The tex files are built from tga files and seem to store raw pixels (they don't even use RLE on the tones of blank alpha pixels!!!). Oh and a heads up to anyone wanting to alter tier mpqs: it seems the launcher will validate and repair the archives before starting the game, erasing any changes.

Even if it's still MPQ format, wouldn't we only be able to make client side graphical modifications? All the actual game data and values are strictly server side correct? Someone did do a basic single player beta client rip but it was purely visual. As all you could do is run around and look at stuff, unable to interact or do anything.
Re: Diablo III Beta Client is Public
You need the server for anything useful, and as blizz don't support mods. any change you do on client side wont be off any value.Voragoth9" wrote:Even if it's still MPQ format, wouldn't we only be able to make client side graphical modifications? Do you expect any flak from Blizzard? You seem to have direct contact with some of their rep's such as Bashiok. Is this something they'll be ok with? Given that any Diablo 3 mods would require server emulation or reverse engineering and that's certainly something they weren't to keen on for WoWI will have a D3 Modding Subforum over on DiabloFans when the time comes. Regardless, from what I've seen thus far...

No, I don't have any direct contact with Blizzard and even if I had I wouldn't have told anything about it.Voragoth9" wrote:Do you expect any flak from Blizzard? But, if you know how a client/server structure works. You would easy know you wouldn't be able to run without the server.
Also, you will never legal be able to do mods for d3. It will be against there tos regardless what you do. If you legaly want to mod a game, you should look for another engine.

It's not something I've asked, no. I think we can keep it at that, .Voragoth9" wrote:Do you expect any flak from Blizzard? You seem to have direct contact with some of their rep's such as Bashiok.
