Yeah, I had to change my email address, password, detach my mobile authenticator, and then attach a new mobile authenticator. Thankfully I'm quick on the draw with those things, so it took me less than an hour to fix it all. But that's an hour I didn't spend having fun. :(

I don't have a suitable phone OS to use mobile auth, so when I updated all my info, I added SMS Protect because my phone has unlimited text.

Man oh man...the D3 forums are a real cesspool right now. First the players (myself included) attacked the devs. Then they attacked the CMs. Now they're attacking the MVPs just to provoke a {filtered}.

I think D3 is pretty much a done deal now, sadly. Only now it's less because of the devs and CMs, and more due to the players being the worst possible lot such that it'd actually be better for those gamers that truly want the game to succeed to just cut the losses and permaban the players that are constantly attacking others or spamming/advertising.

I don't think I've ever seen the WoW community get so self destructive.

It is this unfortunate aspect that I wonder why I even cropped up the $60 to get Diablo 3 in the first place. This is just so sad.

Nostalgia got the better of me and made me buy D3.

I really have no interest in playing D3 anymore. I will likely just log in a for a bit from time to time since I am part of a clan.

I have been playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim and have been enjoying it. I am thinking about getting Kingdom of Amalur as well. I did get Dragon Age 2 a few weeks back but the controls suck but I will likely get a xbox 360 controller so hopefully I can play that game since the story does seem interesting. I never played the first one.

That should last until Torchlight 2 is released if not I will try to get TES: Arena and TES: Daggerfall. Daggerfall should last long enough since it has the largest game world ever created.

I have a gut feeling that Blizzard will not be around much longer if they are continuing to have security issues especially if critical account information was stolen. There would be massive amounts of lawsuits and then bye bye Blizzard.

Funny, nostalgia is what keeps me from buying D3 in a hurry.
I still think that Diablo was in most respects better than Diablo II, and Diablo II is better than Diablo III (as far as I can judge, only have a guest account and played Act IV NM on a friend's account).

KoA was an incredible disappointment, in my book.
It's got a pretty good story written by R.A. Salvatore (who wrote the Drizzt series and the Cleric Quintet) with art by Todd McFarlane (who created Spawn and worked on Batman and Spiderman) and some of the most fluid combat I've ever seen in a game -- attacks flowed smoothly one into the other, including weapon switching and continuing to attack.
Those aspects should have made it an instant great game, however the game, most notably the controls on PC, were garbage console port and gameplay was an unchallengeable buttonmash. From what I played, the quests don't really pull you into the game either (Explanation in the warning, minor spoilers so I put a warning on it).

While I'd love to see companies that ruin a game series/franchise go under, unfortunately that's not how things work.
Blizzard is part of Activision, and WoW is still bringing in money so they're set financially and even with all the negative reviews from Diablo 3, people are still going to drop the $40ish for the expansion pack.

It is now my personal goal to work for Blizzard Entertainment and become Game Director for Diablo IV. The story will be that you, the player, have to go back in time and prevent Tyriel from destroying the Worldstone, thus, Diablo III will have never happened.

Nice one! :D

Btw, I played my barbarian to inferno Act 2... that's where I'll be stuck for a while it seems. But it's a hell lot of fun to rape monsters using whirlwind!
No item was more expensive than 50k gold in the AH except for my pants (200k), two or 3 are self found. Dual wielding owns because I get a lot of life on hit (1000+) and attack fast.

The other way of having fun is playing it with my girlfriend (no char is higher than the beginning of nightmare) and using just what we find. Sometimes I give her or myself a little hand-me-down from my high level chars but usually we play totally selffound.

I think that I enjoyed Dragon Age 1...but it was so long ago that I really don't remember the details, but I do remember that I played that one,and that should say enough...

Also R.A.Salvatore also wrote the Icewind Dale trilogy and some others...

I like both Dragon Age Games, even though Dragon Age 2 was a bit disappointing. I give them both a 7/10 though, because while Dragon Age Origins has memorable characters and a great storyline, it is buggy as hell and has a crap game engine. Dragon Age 2 has annoying characters and a mediocre storyline, but the DLC is pretty epic and the game engine is a lot smoother and far less buggy than DAO.

Double posting is obnoxious, but I'll post this as a separate post since it's absolutely not related to the preceding post.

The big problem I have with Diablo 3's graphics is that everything just looks really undefined. While the concept art is great and very highly detailed, it translates very poorly onto the games very low poly models. Most of the textures look blurry, there isn't enough contrast between the characters and the environment, and the anti-aliasing, lighting and filters make it even worse. The colors on the textures often clash with one another and with the lack of normal maps, changes in height, light and shadow that you'd have over the details are nonexistent, causing everything to look even more undefined. The game is a blurry mess, and it's damn near impossible to tell what the {filtered} anything is. From the beginning they just should have said to hell with anyone still running a Pentium II, and added more polys to the models, thrown in normal maps to capture high poly detail and just made everything more defined. Not to mention higher contrast between lights and shadows.

I should also mention that the Witch Doctor looks like he's perpetually squatting to take a dump.

http://darkd3.com/ makes the game look 100x better.
To see how much an improvement there is to the game JUST by running it through a sharpening filter, set the slider to "Nothing" and then toggle "Sharp" on and off.
It's post processing so it has an impact on your game performance (though it's not big enough for me to really notice). Unfortunately, on my game/resolution/whatever, it makes the text look blurry and discolored even though it works perfectly fine for my friend.

Word of warning, this TECHNICALLY (to the letter, but not the intent) is against Blizzard's ToS for Diablo III. There have been some forum moderators who have said they will not be ban people for using DarkD3 since the wording was meant to apply to those who use programs or alter the game to get an advantage, but something that forum mods say isn't exactly set in stone. That said, they have not banned anyone for using it and it does seem unlikely that they would ever ban people for it given the typical negative reaction to the game so far.

Pretty sure you cannot run it on a PII... or a P3. I struggle with slowdowns on a P4 3.4GHz single core (and my friend gets slowdowns on an i5 2500k 3.3GHz quad core) due to the insane number of physics this game uses. Also, polygons are typically rendered by the GPU, not CPU.
But I agree, given the high CPU requirement to run the game smoothly, they could have done more with the GPU. With my nVidia 9800GT I can run the game with nearly maxed out video settings and not notice any significant difference in game speed compared to having everything on lowest settings -- except in some of the large battles where my CPU bottleneck affects my GPU.

WoW suffers from the same thing - not enough GPU utilization. It's almost as if Blizzard doesn't know how to leverage a GPU to save their lives. D3 should run butter smooth on a 5870/1GB card in a system with 2x dual core 2.66 GHz Xeon 5155s and 7 GB RAM, but it chokes. Badly.

Setting the physics to low (-75%) really helps a lot, and since hitbox collision isn't determined by the physics setting, there is no reason to have that setting at its max.

They could have done so much more than just spell effects with the GPU, but alas, they didn't. :(

Agree with whole post. I've noticed it in asian games (mostly). They have people who run like bent-over humpback ninja. Why do they portrait people like that?

Aaaaaaaaaaand the other shoe finally drops.

I was really, really hoping the Paragon Levels would factor into alts, but there's nothing about them listed, and the 300% MF/GF cap means my non-item rewards are capped, thus the total feel of the game just became a lot shallower than before.

Sure, it's going to be nice to have the bonus stats from PL100, but the time it's going to take to get there (akin to LV 99 in D2) along with the ceiling on what you can realistically obtain, plus no reinstatement of MF to chests means that the game just lost a ton of appeal that had been growing and growing for me with the patch 1.0.4 info thus far.

How is it that one person can mess up the game so badly? And it's the same person that made D3's systems a clusterfsck -YARGH in the first place.

Time to put my ES install back onto my newly revamped XP partition in Boot Camp (had to redo the whole shebang just to install the GOOD Intel AHCI drivers that Apple never bothered to use for their Mac Pros). It looks like ES and console RPGs are going to be getting a whole crapton of love from me for the foreseeable future.

Ah well, now that the cat's out of the bag, I may as well just let it loose and find a new bag. ^_^

I don't have high hopes for the Paragon system.
They said they'd be fixing Legendary items to be not-garbage in 1.0.3... but 1.0.3 came and went and not one change.
Pretty sure 1.0.4 is going to come and go, probably to fix some other garbage that doesn't need fixing or limiting something that doesn't need to be limited, and still no change in Legendary items, let alone the Paragon system.
Well... Apparently 1.0.4 was already out when I typed this. Shows how excited I am about the game.....

I'm honestly surprised that they didn't announce the Paragon system as part of the inevitable expansion pack.

I wonder how this will affect Inferno... Will it become dead simple with high Paragon levels? If so, at least it means I'd be able to get the Inferno achievements... if I ever actually start playing again.

Right. YEARS, plural, of playing HOURS, again plural, EACH day... Bull{filtered}.
I forgot how long it took me to get from 59 to 60, but I know it wasn't that long (2~3hrs I think, though admittedly I had my biggest ruby in my headhole). And even if it IS a similar length to get 1-99 in Diablo II, that didn't take YEARS to achieve if you played consistently, let alone 5~6 hrs/day every day.

They killed the tank DH build using caltrops, which was the only way I could farm even Act 1 Inferno and enjoy the game (I dislike the other builds to no end and Rapid Fire, even with its boost isn't even remotely viable).

1.0.4 was make or break.

Jay Wilson apologizes to Dave Brevik and the entire Diablo fan/player community for his facebook comment about him, and addresses major issues with Diablo III.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6398870250#1

As much as I really dislike the guy and think the whole team flopped on this one, mainly due to poor leadership and design decisions, it looks like they're learning lessons about what makes Diablo Diablo and also the ARPG genre as a whole... and they're learning them the hard way. With what he said about Brevik, the anticipation and expectations of Diablo III and falling flat as well as being thrown to the wolves and the #1 target of player hate, angst and animosity, I can tell that he's starting to collapse under the pressure of fixing the Diablo III cluster-{filtered}. In all honesty, I'm kind of starting to feel sorry for the guy.
