Link between might aura and my current sorc staff??

Post by Ssergit » Tue Mar 25, 2003 10:00 pm

I found a good staff for my low level sorceress to use so I don't have to actually put any points in till I reach the skills I want to use exclusively. I started noticing an interesting development, however. Every time I use my new staff, the monsters around me have might! At first I thought it was just an increased range on might, on a monster in the cave with me, but when I cleared the cave and went up top again, all of those monsters had might as well. It seemed to act as though I had the aura on myself, but only monsters got it, since it seemed to activate in an area around me. Is this a penalty for using a staff?

I guess I should search the forums for a similar problem, till then, any help here would be hot.

The monsters everywhere are getting Might?

That would be awfully odd :silly:

I cannot think of any reason why an item would grant monster auras...though if anyone else with modding experience has any thoughts, feel free to share them. :cobra:

I always thought that was the new spell graphic/animation for Aura of Discernment (the amazon skill that lights the enemies up and reduces their defence).
SiC 2.21 is out finally! YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Hmmm...could be.

I don't recall which aura overlay I used for that skill. Might have been the one originally used for Might.

I was assuming that the player knows what the "new" Might aura looks like in SiC.

Just in case that isn't the case, let me say that the Might aura is actually a ghostly Gargantuan Beast overlaid on the character or monster affected by the Might aura.

I have seen that overlay for the new Might aura. The old Might aura is what people are writing about, I think...I saw that a lot too, but figured it was an effect you added for (many) certain types of monsters. It definitely did not make the monsters harder to kill, so I stopped worrying about it a long time ago, heh heh.

Are you sure you are seeing Thorns and not the old Might aura? The two are very similar looking.

Auras on ennemis are from the amazon's Aura of Discernement.
Check your hireling and equipment.

Sorry, it was the old might aura  . But they don't seem to hurt very much since I always get the first hit. And I'm using a paladin, not an amazon.

Do you have a rogue hireling? She casts the Aura of Discernment too. In fact, with my Zons pairing up with rogues I never use that skill, but sure enough I often have it active in my battles!

In hindsight, I should probably have changed all aura overlays to be completely different than any auras in original D2 to prevent such confusion...rather than change some completely and move others around a bit...it never occured to me that this kind of confusion would occur.
