[PlugY 11.02] Not working on Windows XP SP3 (Solved!)

Post by Nosmo » Sat May 02, 2020 9:55 pm

Trying to get Diablo 2 with PlugY installed on an older Windows XP SP3 laptop for a LAN game but trying to start PlugY.exe only pops up with the error: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I just ran the "PlugY_The_Survival_Kit_v11.02.exe" to install it like I did on my Win10 machine and it works fine there. Version of Diablo 2 i'm using is 113d. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable is installed.

Any ideas what the issue could be? Did PlugY stop working on Win XP after a certain version?~

Well, I can only ask a question since I don't remember last time I've started the game without d2se.

Shouldn't you have plugy.exe and its .ini file in the same folder as the game.exe, and there also you have a plugy.dll?

you can start plugy from any folder you like, so this is ok. But the plugy.dll is definitely missing, so you should download and extract the zip file version of plugy again (I don't recommend the installer)

Sorry the files are out of order, but you can see it in the Diablo 2 folder in that screenshot.

I'm not sure about this setup but it seems wrong to me. I would suggest moving either the dll to the "Mod PlugY" folder, or the other files from there to your "Diablo II" directory.

I'm really stumped, even the "PatchD2File.exe" file wont start, not sure i'm just using the wrong verison of Microsoft Visual C++ or .NET Framework?

You need to install MVC++R 2008 according to Plugy page for version 11.02.

Huzzah praise Talic it works!
Damn I even checked there myself, damn I assumed having the newer version of 2010 would've included any changes or things from the 2008 version, goes to show.
Thanks again! Time to play some LOD v1.09d with PlugY goodness!

Yeah, it would be great if newer version would contain all previous versions, like they did with .net framework 4....

But till then I have like 20 versions of MVC++R installed on my PC usually, and that is not counting some other versions which can be provided for certain game, it depends on developers.

Enjoy now. :P
