Re: [FEEDBACK] Assorted 0.85b Comments
I've just experienced omething similar. When trying to read a Book of Lore at the "Lost City" in act 2, the d2-process was just eliminated, and I'm back at my desktop. No error-message at all. The last bit of the log-file says:
Considering the time-stamps, I find it unlikely that the "NPC: 175 tried to skill1" has anything to do with this, also since other log-files show the same message without this ever happening before. The same goes for the "Save error"-part. This also occours in other log-files, but has never generated this kind of crash.
I read lots of books before in the same game with no problem whatsoever.

I had the same problem a couple of times during testing although it just seems to be something freak that happens with books of lore Hopefully it's fixable rather than having to switch back to regular clue scrolls...

What errors are you getting?
[edit]
Had another crack at the Somber Hills problem that should hopefully at least reduce the bug.
Apart from the trouble, the main issue right now seems to be random BoL crashes right? If it is just certain books I might need to recruit some help to create a list of working books.

That reads like the debug file. Are those the last lines in the debug file, or is there anything like Unhandled Exception to be found?
Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

You can get some Dragonscale Armour (I think that's what it's called) in Act 5, just zip in and out of town until you find some with MF.
Really good armour.

Don't recall an actual error when it happened to me either bud I should probably do something about the NPCs not being able to skill though

Yep that'd probably do the job nicely especially with ED bonuses Not sure if there even ARE any MF bonuses for body armors though (even in vanilla D2), maybe they could be a nice addition to a patch? One option could be to raid normal and get a pair of perfect topaz gems (+20% MF each) or even one flawless heliodor (+40% MF) in NM then keep re-entering act 5 town until a socketed DS armor turns up.

There are no error messages, just that the computer freezes. The pm I sent you was the whole file for the run that that froze. Debug I believe from the number I originally posted.

Regular runes that drop from the hell forge and quel-kehk are pretty much useless as all rune words are out for now although the new ones are definately in the works

Put your your old runes one a time in the Cube, transmute, new rune. Good to use in the Bol recipies, if you have the right ones. Good hunting.

If you want to build up runes, in theory you can just keep running the countess which usually gives 1-2 runes not to mention lots of gold and level level magic items. You can tri-cube all runes through their specific tablet so someone with a lot of patience could get as many different runes as they liked
btw. Myhrginoc has located the BoL problem which is apparently related to the memory allocation for the Books vs the length of my Books. I'll probably have a look tomorrow and release a quick fix to disable oversized ones until he gets time to nail the bug
And on a side note, modders when testing new music make sure to not get your MP3s/WAVs mixes up as listening to Weird Al Yankovic's "Harvey the Wonder Hamster" which battling Diablo is more than a little strange...

Regarding the Book of Lore trouble, hopefully this fix should help as it replaces the 10 longest books which exceeded 1500 characters. Once the new version of the BoL is out I'll probably reinstate the old ones too.
As usual these fixes are optional for now and will be included in the next full patch anyway, we just figured it's worth debugging before then.

Since I had skipped the Countess, decided to go back and do them. Did Norm Castle with no problem, when I did NM Castle, the computer froze at lvl 2 as about to go to lvl 3. Here are the crash results;

Did not try it again at this point.
I had a message saying you sent me a pm. When I tried, no pm.
Do the Bol have crafted recipies or only tempered. Thought maybe Bol's were different for Norm, NM, and Hell, but they appear just to be random anywhere.

The books are currently just random everywhere with the high end ones coming later and will be difficulty/area specific.
Was that crash before or after applying the fix I posted above this morning?
As for the PM yeah sorry my mistake, I was quoting your error log to send to Myhrginoc and accidently pressed send so had to change the recipient quickly.

It was before the fix. Installed the fix, ran Castle with no problems. Will run a few more times to make sure it is not random. For runes and goodies, I think Andy runs are more profitable. Usually get 1 or 2 runes and other goodies, including Set pieces.

Well your error mentioned the BoL DLL and that's what the fix was supposed to cover so let's hope

Well Andy is definately better for general stuff but I didn't think she had guaranteed rune drops so that shows how much attention I pay

I killed The Forgotten King, but he only dropped one rare and a town portal scroll. Slightly dissapointed at that!
I don't see the link for the update for the BoL.
