1.13 can be beta tested on battle.net now -

http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?to ... 8&sid=3000

No changes really seem that big to me. They did add some kind of new challenge in Hell difficulty on realm games, but I'm not going back to vanilla D2 just for that.
kingpin" wrote:1.13 delayed again. read more about it here
1. Increased stash size, which is the cause of the current delay as they take hardware and server considerations in to thought, is so far essentially confirmed (now debunked).
2. No increased resolution- it would require "fundamental change" to the game and would have to account for faster player traveling issues (like being able to Teleport or Jump farther), spawning monsters on a larger scale around the player, and monster aggro would have to be taken in to account.
3. No new end-game content. Bashiok noted that with this patch it would not be possible to add it, although there was no inkling of whether or not it would or would not be included with any future patch.
None of above is comming in 1.13. They pulled off increased stash due to hardware issues.

increase resolution make no sense do in old game like this. It's alot work just to increase the resolution itself with everything from graphics, skills, ai e.tc
They did add some new end game content (for battlenet, anyway) and increased resolution ("Support for blit scaling in windowed mode. The game can now be maximized to the largest 4:3 resolution supported" / "Added new command line parameter '-nofixaspect' which allows users to not fix the aspect ratio to 4:3 when maximizing windowed mode. This lets the game 'stretch' to fill your monitor").

No increased stash, but they did add respects.

Changes list:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Patch 1.13
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new Mystery has been revealed!

- Players of Hell Difficulty Realm games are hereby warned once again,
that a series of new and challenging tests await you! The answer lies
within Diablo's Bosses, which span across the world from the Den of Evil
to the Throne of Destruction...

Major Bugs

- Fixed an item dupe bug.
- Video improvements for Intel Mac machines with OS 10.5 or greater.

Minor Bugs

- Uber Mephisto now checks for both Uber Baal and Uber Diablo to be killed before spawning summoned minions (Before he would only check for Uber Baal).
- The game will no longer stop and then restart the game music after the window loses and then regains focus.
- Fixed an issue where the game window would minimize when running in windowed mode when it lost focus.
- Fixed an issue where the game window wouldn't center properly when it was created.

Specific changes/improvements

- Respecialization is now possible! Completing the 'Den of Evil' quest will now additionally reward 1 free respec which can be saved. Players who have already completed this quest should receive 1 free respec in Hell difficulty.
- Increased the drop rate of high runes.
- Support for blit scaling in windowed mode. The game can now be maximized to the largest 4:3 resolution supported (hooray widescreen users).
- Some rare drop items now have an orange color. i.e. Runes and items required for Uber Tristam.
- Modified the gold bank limit to be a flat cap not bound by level.
- Nightmare/Hell WilloWisps champions/uniques have had their damage greatly reduced.
- Removed the requirements to create a hardcore character.
- Greatly reduced the explosion damage dealt by Fire Enchanted monsters.
- Uber Mephisto and Uber Baal's summoned minions no longer give experience.
- Removed Oblivion Knight's Iron Maiden curse.
- Hellfire Torch Firestorm proc rate has been reduced to 5%.
- Users can now toggle the display of text over the Health and Mana globes by clicking on the bottom area of each orb.
- Updated two Act 5 mercenary names to Klar and Tryneus.
- When creating a single player game, pressing the 'Enter' key now automatically creates a Hell difficulty game if possible.
- When creating a game, each difficulty button is now bound to a unique key: Normal 'R', Nightmare 'N', and Hell 'H'.
- The 'Enter Chat' Button in the battle.net waiting room is now bound to the 'Enter' key.
- Added the windows system buttons to the game window (MIN, MAX, CLOSE).
- Added new command line parameter '-nofixaspect' which allows users to not fix the aspect ratio to 4:3 when maximizing windowed mode. This lets the game 'stretch' to fill your monitor.
- Added support for '-sndbkg' command line switch. This enables sound in background.
- Added support for '-nosound', '-window', and '-windowed' command line options.

Don't know how you get it, but the reward is some kind of respec-granting item. That implies mods could shower respecs all over if they wanted, or anything inbetween.

I was interesting in the blitting but it looks terrible, zero smoothing at all, no better than what the d2 glide wrappers can do. At least we don't need some dll to stop windowed from minimizing anymore.

thats not increased resolution, they just streach the current resulotion to a bigger size, it looks horrible to say the least...

EDIT: seems foxbat agrees with me :). the only thing I like about the patch is respec and the minimize buttons and focusing, but I already have all this so :|

It does look like it is the respec option. But the respec option may be only for the B-Net players.

Any modern gfx card does this on it's own anyway, the main reason people want a resolution incrase is that the scaling done by the card looks {filtered} terrible.

both work in sp, one is bound by Item code, the other is just a quest filtered option at akara

whats worse is that is under GDI, so the qualitity get degrade even more than if some post processing was applied in D3D/DD or OGL

Actually it's worse than what the glide wrapper can do, just playing around with it and indeed it's using video card to smoothly stretch things. :) That already has options like capturing the mouse so.... yeah, no point. :p

It's indeed not flawless done. It looks quite ugly and is bugged. If you maxmize/minmize the game graphics will crash and you will need to relog to get everything back again.

I doubt they going fix this issue saddly. It's the same with all bots. This is two thing's that would improve the game experience for legal players if they fixed.

Sounds amazing, actually. They actually FIXED something this time around:
- Nightmare/Hell WilloWisps champions/uniques have had their damage greatly reduced.
- Increased the drop rate of high runes.
-Blessed Hammer - No longer ignores resistances of undead and demons.
But sadly they also neutered the game:
- Removed the requirements to create a hardcore character.
- Greatly reduced the explosion damage dealt by Fire Enchanted monsters.
-Blood Golem - Removed negative shared life effect (player no longer loses life when golem takes damage).
I'll have to try this out. The irony is, is that I created a new poll without knowing this information.
Although done for our needs, mod-makers should like these changes, too.

The problem with this one is not a fix of the bug itself. They have only toned down the damage. So, the bug itself isn't causing the huge damage :)

For all who claims 1.13 is their final patch.

Some official words from Blizzard regarding that:
I also want to impress upon everyone that 1.13 isn't and never has been intended as a final patch for Diablo II. I realize with the long delays in getting it to PTR, and longer stretches of time inbetween patches that it seems like it's necessary that 1.13 encompass everything because, well, there's just no guarantee that anything will come after. Or in a timely fashion. But, there is a solid long term plan of action for future support of Diablo II. There's obviously plenty of room for skepticism, and I can't blame anyone for that. But even with that skepticism I hope that we can get the message across that we have no intention of stopping here.

Great, so do they have a team whose sole job is to fix bugs in that game and release patches in a timely manner? Given what happened with this patch, I doubt it, so we'll be looking at another two years before the next patch.

At this point, it's not the enhancements I want for this game. The respec is good, but really only benefits you if you are on Single Player because, unless you use ATMA, your equipment may require you to make a different character build later on in the game. On battle.net, you can always trade.

Maybe the only enhancement I want is for gambling to go back to its old glory, at least on Single Player.

I wonder... Will they ever add custom map support here? I suspect they'll only support it in starcraft, but I can always hope. Modding to make new maps is okay, but an actual map creator would be better.

Okay it'd probably have less features available for tweaking, It'd be nice to be able to use a GUI to position things though.

So what do the new items do? Except for Token they look like things dropped by act bosses. And my best guess is that the cube recipe is used to create the token by transmuting the other 4. So what does the token do? The code above doesn't seem to have an effect.
