Re: how 2 find youre external ip (fx behind Router) (easy)
ups i forgot how 2 tell you how 2 bypass a router
If you're behind a router you'll need to do two things:
1.) find youre external ip at... www.myip.com
2.) Tell your router to forward connections on the port D2 uses to your computer. The port number is readily available online (don't remember it off hand).
You *probably* have some way to configure your router. Check the manual for more info.
biaaach and there it is -

port 4000 for TCP and 6112 for TCP/UDP.DeClineD";p="157499" wrote:Since i have no idea of where to find out wich port D2 uses it would be VERY kind of you to find out and post it here

TCP and UDP are two data transfer protocol used by various application. CP is a connected, safe mode while UDP is a loosy conenction mode.

Så you suggest using TCP/IP via port 4000?

Re: how 2 find youre external ip (fx behind Router) (easy)
You should open both.
TCP/IP -- Transfer Control Protocol / Internet Protocol.
This part probably does the most work, but I really couldnt tell you for sure.
UDP - Is a connectionless protocol. It doesnt matter if a connection is established or not, it will just send the data. Unreliable, but probably contains some important data for the game.
EDIT: doh my bad.. just realized Joel also explained above.. *sigh*

TCP only on port 4000 is sufficient (and works just fine on my dual router/firewall configuration). Port 6112 needs both TCP and UDP.
(There is no point in forwarding or opening ports to unnecessary protocols.)

Port 6112 to 6119 are only needed when you are hosting a game on bnet and from my notes TCP is only needed. I have atleast only open up those ports and have been able to host on bnet.
Re: how 2 find youre external ip (fx behind Router) (easy)
Got it working now... I only opened up port 4000...

Re: how 2 find youre external ip (fx behind Router) (easy)
My telephone company has a router for all DSL connections. I figured that it doesn't forward those ports, because nobody can join the games I host, but I can join other games.
Well they won't forward those ports obviously. I can't configure the router as it's not mine. Does this mean I'm faqd? Is there a way to solve this, except blackmailing them ?

Have you asked them about it? This isn't a new problem, they may have a standard approach by now.pmpch" wrote:Well they won't forward those ports obviously. I can't configure the router as it's not mine.

This site http://www.whatismyip.com/ has instructions on how to do so, you need to find what router you have, then log in to it and forward the ports in there.

Note: If you have a Linksys NR401 like I do, the default password they have listed is incorrect, login is Admin and so is pass

yeah.. i hope i was smarter on computers T_T
Re: how 2 find youre external ip (fx behind Router) (easy)
OK, find out what router you have, and read the manual OR go to the website and poke around under support. They have instructions for configuration usually, as well as default passwords etc.
Or:
type "cmd" in RUN under the start menu. when that comes up, type without the quotes "ipconfig /all"
Look for something like this:
Take that number, and put it in your web browser as if it were a website, example http://192.168.0.1
It will ask you for a password. Usually the default is something like login: admin, password: admin or try password as a password. If those don't work, log as admin with NO password. If all else fails, check around on these lists (you will need to know the brand and usually the model of your router):
http://defaultpassword.com/
http://www.phenoelit.de/dpl/dpl.html
http://www.cirt.net/cgi-bin/passwd.pl
NOTE: please don't use those lists for evil/nerfarious purposes.
After you are in, you need to look for something called "Port Forwarding". The configuration page should have some details, possibly even presets.
If you can't get in, its possible that someone else (IE parents, wifi-stealing neighbors, aliens) changed it. Ask whoever owns the router for the password, obviously. If it's YOURS and the password has somehow been changed, look in the manual or manufacture's website for "reset to factory defaults" or somethign similar.
Good luck!
