Heres a little tip for more advanced modders. It seems with some files that you CAN add extra columns at the *end* of the file. Theres some catches though. Like I said, it's gotta be at the end, you can't go inserting columns in the middle. Every row in the final column must have some sort of entry:...

Re: So guess who they killed off?
I'm not sure *how* he survives, but somehow he's just hanging out down a few floors, and yeah you do rescue him in the beta.
Rumor is he will die later though, a little bit of mined data supports the idea.

Re: Notes from the beta test: General D3 play mechanics, etc.
Also have the beta here. My thought is that many, many of their decisions are oriented around public mulitplayer. And as one who suffered through D1's horrible public play and generally avoided it in D2, D3's public multi is refreshing, at least for the easy zones of the beta. I expect the entire ga...

Re: Netherworld Rises Alpha
This mod needs some mad props because it's pretty interesting as is, as far as I've gotten in act 1. A LOT of work seems to have gone into redoing the levels/acts. Every single fixed set piece has been replaced, they all feature new superuniques, and many of them are ridiculous bosses like you'd see...

Re: How can we expect to mod Diablo III?
Most advanced mods are still in development dead. Fixed. There's alot of untapped potential in 1.10, without even touching all the great code-editing extension systems that have been made. But there aren't a whole lot of modmakers really actively and intensely working on them anymore. It's always a...

Re: How can we expect to mod Diablo III?
How would you manage to mod D3, if you remove everything that made D2 moddable? no more soft coded texts to use to mod with? you would only get graphics change/ce mods and that would basically cut down on possible mods considerable. No, tools to use at all. There will still be data/database files, ...

Re: How can we expect to mod Diablo III?
So yeah, any kind of offline or semi-offline mode has been completely eliminated. Playing anything like "mods" would require first developing private servers as is done in MMOs, and Blizzard will of course frown on this. Not surprisingly they also announced mods are "prohibited." Given the stance th...

I really like the direction they've taken colors and textures in act 2. It actually feels gritty and diablo-esque unlike some of the earliest shots we saw.

Re: Ok, so a world editor isn't needed. What we do need is this
No-one's even tried to make an overhaul mod for torchlight yet, so I don't think your logic follows entirely. D2 hasn't been the best choice for modding for a long time. However there is a relation between the sheer popularity of the base game and mods being created and played. Even if D3 isn't the ...

Re: Skills: How to balance them, or attempt to balance them
Make a level 90 character with all max skills and some of the better gear in your mod, and go blow some stuff up in high level areas. That will give you some idea of which skills are better than others and you can adjust to your desired difficulty level. This way you'll end up tweaking numbers/effec...

Re: 1.13...
Actually it's worse than what the glide wrapper can do, just playing around with it and indeed it's using video card to smoothly stretch things. That already has options like capturing the mouse so.... yeah, no point. :p

Re: 1.13...
Don't know how you get it, but the reward is some kind of respec-granting item. That implies mods could shower respecs all over if they wanted, or anything inbetween. I was interesting in the blitting but it looks terrible, zero smoothing at all, no better than what the d2 glide wrappers can do. At ...

So I've been browsing the editor and it's pretty sweet. - Near all skills softcoded, has at least as much flexibility as D2 "auras", but setup well for AoE attacks and effects too. (Albeit no complicated calcs) - Add new skills, classes, spells, monsters, etc. easily. Monster abilities and even poti...

The game is really good, and I'm looking forward to the editor release. Far too lazy to even open excel anymore... dragging points on a curve to control monster difficulty sounds more my cup of tea.

Re: Deeply concerned about multiplayer options.
The key is log in to B-Net. I think that connecting to B-Net will check that you are running there version and if you are playing a mod it will kick you out. Good point. In D2 MPQ-only mods that are updated for the latest version will pass the version check, but we have no idea how D3 would handle ...

Re: Deeply concerned about multiplayer options.
Interesting article on Diablofans: Psuedo-LAN for SC2/DIII Basically for SC2 they are developing a "LAN" system so you still have to log on to bnet for your "friends/achivements/etc" (but really CD-KEY), and yet the game will connect peer-peer over LAN for low-latency play. The same thing has been m...

Re: Mod Support Deemed Too "Ambitious"
WoW doesn't have much for modding either, other than the UI, which they've already commented was kind of a mistake in complicating the user experience. The real point is they want you to play on battle.net and aren't going to invest major resources into supporting the SP element beyond the bare mini...

Re: The Monk Officially announced!
I'm pretty confident that if Blizzard were going to require an online check to play, they'd just eliminate the single player portion altogether. As is they're already going to try and force your new character onto battle.net unless you explicitly opt-out of it. (or at least, if you have an active in...

Re: 1.13...
Respecs are planned to be included in 1.13 patch . My guess/hope is that this would be implemented through the cube. Say a cube forumla output that just takes all your invested skill/stats and moves them to an unspent pool, so you can reassign them freely, much like plugy. This lets blizzard play a...

T Nopes. I configurated the wrapper to work in windowed mode not fullscreen. You might be doing something differently than me, but configuring the wrapper to work in windowed is done in the glide-init program, then you just run it with -3dfx or normally. Running -w sticks me with software mode rega...

That's because -w forces software rending mode. You aren't actually seeing glide. (I think)
